You mean the one I really fell hard for? Not the puppy loves? No I didn't marry him. I don't wish to share the details but he disappeared ( in retrospect seems he had to) and never returned. I was heartbroken. I fully expected him to come back. He left personal belongings with a friend. I looked for him and hit brick walls and even endured a few threats. His friend vanished shortly after too. It messed me up but I came out stronger.

I only learned a few years ago that he died before he could return. I don't know how, there is no one left to tell me. There is no obituary other than a simple death notice. He was 23. I was 18. He died two months after he left.

I didn't married my first love but I have no regrets on who I did marry. We're good.

Yes. Met him when I was 12. Had a huge crush on him but he had lots of girlfriends. I didn't have anything to write about him in my diary, so every day I wrote down what he wore to school. By the time he asked me for a date, I was 16 and not that interested any more, but my parents loved him. We dated for 3 years and got married. I didn't really want to get married but my parents wanted to travel and needed someone to watch me. Seriously, they were that overly protective.

Yes I married my first love but we are divorced now. I don't believe that he ever really realized that he loved me until after we separated and then it was just too late. Yes and no. I had one serious boyfriend in high school, but he moved away our senior year. I have no idea if that could have lasted. I met DH my sophomore year in college, and we've been together since. I knew pretty quickly that he was The One. That was 1982, we'll celebrate our 30th anniversary in a couple of weeks.

I was almost drafted, decided to enlist. That was the end of it. I was sorry about that. About 30 years later, I found her sister and asked why I could not locate her. She died within 3 years of me entering the Navy of leukemia. So sad.

No,thank heavens. My first love turned out to be a miserable,freeloading, POS cheater and I hate that I wasted any of my life with him. When I was finally rid of him for good it was like a giant weight lifted off my heart. But when we were first together, I fell so hard for him I thought we would be together forever. Yes I did! I was on assignment ( recruiting duty) in Cleveland, OH and was introduced to her by a fellow marine, her BIL. She's so awesome, I asked her to marry me on our third date. I'm grateful she accepted.

This is interesting.. the first guy I went with in high school was the star of the basketball team. Went with him for 2 years. Loved his family.. broke up after he graduated. We were two years apart in age. He married, had 3 kids and was an awful father. Ended up leaving her and married several other times. The second guy was in my class. We went together a couple years. A short time after high school. He was attached to his Momma's apron strings. She never carried for me foe some reason. I finally told him when he could cut himself from his momma we might have a chance. Never saw him again. He got a girl pregnant and married her. He moved a mobile home on his parents property for them to live in. Guess what, It didn't last. He married again, had 5 kids and divorced again. I have chatted with him a few times and we are friends on Facebook. He told me a couple years ago I was his first and only true love.. He wishes we had married.

Me, I married Larry 49 years ago. He has been so good to me. I can honestly say the love is different then the second guy I dated. The best thing we ever did was move away from our hometowns and start a life for ourselves. We only knew each other 6 months before we married. But I have been very happy in my life. We have 3 grown kids and 6 wonderful grandkids. Life is really good. Would I ever change anything. No, I would not.

I was with a guy I loved and thought I was madly in love with for 7 years when I was in my late teens to early 20s. He died when I was 24 of cancer. Shortly after I met the man I married. It wasn't until him I truly knew what it was to be so deeply in love with someone that you just knew they were the one. You complimented each other and every thing just seemed right. I never realized I could completely fall for someone like that and that prior to meeting him I had had so many walls up. With him I let all the walls down and let myself just be without fear of being hurt.

We were married 20 years and then we got divorced. Life, mid life crisis, fate whatever you want to call it got in our way. We both still love each other very much and are very close friends and talk to each other all the time. But at this time in our lives we had so many other things going on that we could not stay married. It seems our lives needed to go in different directions to be happy. We talk all the time about how who knows maybe things will work out that we will end up back together and marry again. I chose to move 1500 miles away after the divorce to start new and do things I hadn't been able to do and he is doing the same.

Nope, I was almost 26 when I got married. I had a high school crush on a boy since I was 12 and he liked me up into my 20's, but we never could be on the same page at the same time. I also had an intense passionate brief relationship when at college with someone I had known in high school. I heard lots of things about him many years later that made me glad it didn't last. DH and I have been together 40 years and started out as friends. I think those are the relationships that last.

No, and I broke his heart. As far as I know, he never married. I broke up with him to date my college TA, who I fell madly and passionately in love with. He broke my heart. But I would still dream about him for over 10 years. I was good friends with my DH, met him working in the peds ICU at the U of Wisconsin. He was such a caring and compassionate nurse to the sick kiddies, and I knew he would be a good father. But I wasn't interested because he was too short (my height) and I liked to wear heels. A friend was getting married, another PICU nurse, and she invited me and told me to bring him as my date, and since I wasn't dating anyone I did. Yes & no. I was 20 & only knew him for 2 weeks to the day & we got married. We knew nothing about each other, he was a bad boy & I was from a close knit Irish Catholic family. We did not have much in common, we were like night & day. My Dad & both brothers were cops & knew all about him but for me it did not matter. Everyone said it would not last, still going strong it will be 52 years in Sept. For us opposites did attract.

My first 'crush' dropped me before Junior High graduation. (He became head of a large corporation, married, had three kids, moved to where DH and I lived, was an alcoholic, committed suicide.) I escaped.

My second 'crush' and I lived 1500 miles apart. It later realized that it was convenient for me to have a 'true love' far away so that I could escape HS romances. I visited him at his family home. He came to visit me. We were only ever 'engaged to be engaged'. I had created a 'romance' around him, but could see no future with him. He married the girl who had been sleeping with him since they were 14, and she was primary support of their family until her relatively early death. I escaped.

Third 'crush' was a year younger than I. I was attracted to him, and he had a future ahead of him. We were both busy making our ways in school and the world. I met another man. Hearing of my engagement, this young man called, asking for another chance. Best not.

After high school graduation Johnny joined the Navy and we left our little country town in Tennessee moving to a few big cities. I was so shy I didn't date at all in high school. Moving away to college raised my confidence, so I had two or three crushes that resulted in dates. Then met my DH -- he was the best looking guy in the group, our tastes in obscure music overlapped quite a bit, and we laughed at references to the same comedy shows. Yes. DH was my first serious boyfriend. I was 15 he was 16 when we started dating. Got married 5 years later. Have 2 fabulous adult kids, a son and a daughter. Will celebrate 36 years in May.

No and that's ok. He asked me to marry him and I did love him but he wanted to stay in our small town-which he did and I wanted to see the world-which I have. I know he is a good father, husband, and man but I would not trade my life experiences for what would have been a comfortable, loving but stagnate marriage. Yes, in a way I did...I met him when I was 12, in a hospital bed with a broken femur with my leg in traction (way back in 1950)...He was in the adjoining room with burns to his arms but he was able to walk and the nurses would tell him to visit that little girl next door....Even after he was discharged, he'd still come to visit and then I was sent home in a full body cast and flat on my back for another 6 months and there he was still visiting...He had graduated from HS, went into the Army and we wrote, daily, back and forth and shortly after he came home, we were married...I had graduated, was only 17 and he was 22...AND here we are, married almost 63 years, 5 kids, 13 grand kids and 3 great grands...Sadly, he was diagnosed with dementia 3 years ago and it's not been an easy time...There are days when he has no idea who I am but then when he calls me "Hon", I know he's still with me....So many keep telling me, I need to place him in a home but he took care of me all those years and now it's my turn...As long as I'm breathing and able, I'm determined to keep him in the house we've lived in for all these years......

I still am not sure what you mean. The first boy I dated? I remember being IN LOVE back in first grade. Haven't seen that guy since third grade. I tell my students every time we love our heart expands and we will be able to love the next person more unconditionally and more completely..but to think this LOVE you are feeling at 16/17...is THE ONE well not likely. I was 29 when I married. I would not say I dated A LOT of men but no way would I recommend choosing a mate before your brain is fully functioning, at 25+ or so. Even then with divorce over 50% it is a crap shoot!!

Yes I did, I had been in puppy love temporarily but, when I met my husband, I told my gf that night that I would marry him. I was 17 and he was 24. We married when I was 19 and that was 58 years ago, we still are best friends and buddies to each other and love is stronger every year. We've had a great life together.

Never pooh-pooh those early loves. I've seen enough reunions to know that the attraction can last a long, long time.

This was also evident when I helped adult adoptees and birth families find one another. An adoptee would find a birth mother (or be found), then want to know about the birth father, so there would be some contact through the adoptee. Not infrequently, the long-parted couples were still 'in love', although most did not act on that attraction.

Anyway...it's *real*. You may have been too young to make it a marriage, but the feelings can still be there.
