11th hour countertop decision! help!!
Comments (11)For whatever it's worth, our old kitchen had extremely cheap granite in it (told by a couple of contractors that it was "the cheapest you can get"---lovely!)---and it was a dream from a performance perspective. No staining, no maintenance issues in the three years we used it, and they were able to get it out intact and took it off to be reused elsewhere. So I do think it's probably unusual to have lots of issues with it, if cheap granite that was VERY poorly installed (horrible seams, etc.) performed that well. I liked Caesarstone a lot, but the dealbreaker in the end was not being able to set hot pots directly on it, since we got accustomed to being able to do that with the granite. I know I should use trivets anyway, but the chances of screwing it up once and having to live with the costly consequences scared me off of it. So that might be one thing to consider. (I don't know what happens if you set hot things on Caesarstone; just know that the dealer and literature both said no-no-no!) Also, FWIW Caesarstone is manmade quartz, which is different from quartzite---that's a separate type of natural stone....See MoreFresh Ideas for Selling in the 11th Hour?
Comments (35)Over all it seems clean and attactive and it seems priced right. There are lots of homes for sale, though, and that could be hurting yours. The backyard is mentioned in the text, it would be nice to see a picture of it. Stage it with some flowers and nice potted plants if needed to make it look inviting. Somebody mentioned switching the tables, you might try that and see how it looks. Also, the picture of the front of your house isn't the best. Nothing makes it stand out from all the other houses. Experiment with some different angles so it doesn't look like it is all garage and driveway. Make sure to put lots of flowers out front....See More11th hour change=more storage. Opinions if I should please!
Comments (5)The symmetry on the sink wall is a non-issue in my opinion. I get ppbenn's point about closing the top shelf for symmetry's sake, but seeing as I think it's a non-issue, I wouldn't close it, unless you want hidden storage. I am assuming you will use that for display purposes. I see that you opened up the shelf over the stove when you added the side mounted cupboards, and I see you have cookbooks there in your rendering. Having an open display over the stove is only suitable for things you don't mind getting covered with grease. Have you allowed for the venting for the range hood? I only ask because I have open shelving (which I had holes drilled for glass shelves and then have put in tall display items and have never used a shelf) over my stove, and had forgotten that I needed to have the venting for the stove hood up there, so DH built a false backing for my display area, which is only a few inches deep, not deep enough for books, and I wouldn't put books up there anyways. I have items that are not precious and do have to be washed regularly....See More48-hours 'til paint decision!
Comments (9)Different whites do not play well with some other whites. You already have white cabinets, and have closely matched the simply white for your trim. If you really want to go white, use simply white flat on your ceiling. Simply white eggshell or satin on the walls (your preference), and simply white either semi gloss or satin on the trim. If you want satin on your trim, do not use satin on the walls. Once you are settled in a yr or so, you can always repaint in a color that goes well with your furnishings, if you choose too. You have three kids, so I would use satin sheen in their rooms anyway....See Moreapl
