Perle d'Or as a 4 foot hedge?
Comments (16)As Fang mentioned, I have a hedge of Perle d'Or. Funny, I was just thinking that Marie Pavie would make an even better hedge. It is a fuller plant and to my nose, quite a bit more fragrant. With Perle d'Or, don't space them too far apart. It wants to be narrower and taller than MP. You can keep it to four feet easily, though. Rosefolly...See MoreHow tough are these roses?
Comments (11)hi melissa, well mrs OF had better be tough since it is on my list for next spring. Regarding TIC, my friend grows this and although it is still only a year old, it is shaping up to be a little winner. All these china types seem to have an innate toughness despite their twiggily fragile looking growth. Hers came from Beales, who highly recommend this rose...and, I think it will do well in your area since they got theirs from some rose breeder in S. of France, I think (Hazel Rougetel). I too am watching with interest as I have had an eye for this rose for a couple of years. Have you thought anymore about the sacramento rose - stellata mirifica? Might be a winner for you. Also, am wondering how some of the new hulthemias might do for you also. Just ordered another myself, Alissar, Princess of :Persia -good name or what?...See Moreplant choices for half barrel
Comments (13)Shari, Black Magic really needs a lot of sun to show its beautiful color and it's a very thirsty plant in full sun. I've used Xanthosoma jeoquinii or Xanthosoma atrovirens 'Mickey Mouse' and they add a lot of interest. X. jeoquinii has incredible leaves but again the more sun the better. The leaves are kind of crinkled looking and the more sun they get the more they crinkle. Mickey Mouse is just too cute with its variegatd ears. Both of those keep well in a cool (above freezing) place in winter, just back off on the water when it's cold. The black stem EE fontanesii (sp?) is a beautiful elegant EE and hardier than most. It is my fav EE when it comes to showy....See MoreAphids?
Comments (7)If you do call please let us know what they say about that. I've been trying to convince my Mother to stop spraying the aphids on her roses. If the flour worked only on the aphids that would be a great thing! She claims she has no ladybugs and she probably doesn't since she can't stay away from the seven dust. I never knew what the ladybug larvae looked like until earlier this year. Here's a picture I took of one about a month ago:...See More- 7 years ago
