K-Cup Hydroponics Part I (I need air pump advice)
Comments (1)my thoughts are double the amount of air in the system. use 2 12" stones per bin. Other than obvious tube splices, T's and what not, the only other thing that comes to my mind is how're you going to get the lines into the bins? if you're going to go through the plastic bin wall, you'll need a grommet to make it water tight. the kind you'll need are founding in the specialty bolts/connections area at lowe's. they're located near the screws and nails and are in deep wide, but narrow trays. probably run you $.30 a piece, so pick up some spares. Oh! and take a short piece of the hose with you so you know it'll fit....See MoreK-Cup Hydroponics Part II (pictures)
Comments (1)I predict the lettuce under the cool whites will grow better. for vegtative growth, the cool whites put off a better light spectrum than the warm whites. Also, you'd be better off with one light over each bin. as it sits right now, the plants along the outer fringe of your rafts aren't going to get much light. and lower them as close as possible to the plants. fluorescents lose light strength quickly as you get away from the bulb. I like your hole punch and you're doing a good thing recycling. I've never heard of k-cups. around here we still use coffee filters and a scoop....See MoreWhy I went with the Miele (coffee system) Caution: LONG
Comments (13)The Fagor never made it onto my radar screen, but it looks like it might be the same as the Ariston, the one I wasn't able to see in person. Honestly, at the prices we are talking about, I cannot see spending so much money for a manual steamer wand machine when for a little more you can get the Miele with the automatic foam and hot milk system. But since you asked, after 6 months I am getting a little annoyed with the Miele. Though we love the beverages and the convenience, I am getting a nagging S2 fault intermittently that requires me to get up and cycle the front door interlock to get it to shut up. I called Miele and they will only send someone out to fix it on my dime. No warranty at all. Why? Because I bought the machine on ebay. The seller was a Miele dealer in New York, but Miele won't honor the new machine warranty. Personally, I think Miele, as a corporation, sucks. I will buy a set of service documents on the black market and fix it myself I guess. To answer mhjohnson, I don't think the problem is Arabica beans, but it may be the roast. A lot of these coffees are over roasted today, particularly from the influence of Starbucks, which really roasts with a heavy hand. I would look for a medium roast bean, set the coarseness of the grind to no more than halfway, and then start making experimental coffees, dialing up the water and down the amount of coffee until you hit his happy spot. One other trick is get a cup, dial up ONE shot of espresso, then use the hot water button and fill the cup with hot water. Stir it up and see if he likes it. Then adjust the coffee up and water down until you hit the right mixture. Once you get done with this, set up 2 profiles so that he can dial coffee his way and you the right way....See MoreK Cups
Comments (11)I wait for the best price or sale and then order a huge number of cups. I used to hold out for 39 cent cups, but that price is long gone with the current price of coffee. I drink only two cups a day and rationalize that I am not wasting any extra coffee that I might need to make a Mr. single cup. I buy only Green Mountain. At two cups a day I figure I can consider it a small indulgence. I have a really big box containing my most recent order stored on top of my dryer which is on top of my wahser. This box will last about 6 months and I don't find the coffee to taste stale when I get down to the last individual box. Those other K cups aren't to be envied. I know from experience because I used to need DD and have been mercifully reduced to an ordinary B---aaaaaah! ;-) http://www.theluckyimage.com/servlet/StoreFront...See More- 9 years ago
