We have one that dh won a few years back. We also use the reusable filters. I like coffee, but I gave it up a couple of weeks back in my quest to limit dairy and lose weight. I like the Dunkin Donuts brand best, but rarely buy it because it is pricey.

I bought SO one years ago for christmas,since he likes only one cup of coffee and only when it's cold outside,and I hate coffee. But I bought the 25 buck Hamilton Beach one from walmart. I use it to make a mug of hot cocoa every once in awhile. He likes the regular maxwell house or folgers kcups.

Mama, try a box of your favorite grocery stores generic brand, it might be quite good. DH prefers the Safeway Costa Rica, a medium blend, over many of the name brand pods. I'm not choosey and tend to like my coffee darker when I do drink it, but buy the one he likes, stocking up when its on sale....

We love ours and will never go back. DH like regular, I drink decaf, and usually only one cup a day.

My only suggestion is that you run just hot water through before making a cup.

Also, there really is no way to clean out the actual machine if it has not been used for a while. We have had to throw out one that was from my DD's apartment from college.

Eld the manual gives instructions on how to clean the exterior, drip tray, the funnel, the exit needle and how to do an internal descaling, although the latter requires a special descaler solution. Manual says to descal every 3 to 4 months unless the warning light comes on beforehand.

I use one and my favorite coffees are Green Mountain brands Vermont Country, Nantucket, and Colombia. I also like Tully's Hawaiian.

I buy my K-cups at BB&B with a 20% off coupon. I like Dunkin donuts.

I have one and use it all the time. I order my K cups directly from keurig. I only drink decaf so the selection is more limited, but my favorite is Timothy's colombian. It has a rich coffee flavor. I also go for the hazelnut and french vanilla for like after dinner. I do keep some french roast around...I find the dark coffees are great if I'm eating something sweet like pancakes.

I LOVE TIM HORTONS! I don't use this type of system but my sister does. I prefer percolated coffee or for a single cup, the pour over method.

Mama, yes I know about descaling. We use purified water so long intervals without having to do it.

What I was trying to explain is if you store the machine for a few month, there is always some water left inside the machine and it ruins the mechanisms.

Annie, I only drink decaf as well. I also like Gevalia's mild roast (which is actually not too mild) and I get Dunkin Donut decaf from Bed, Bath and Beyond with their coupon. I think I have tried all the decafs. I used to also like Green Mountain Breakfast Blend.

Yes, we have a small one at the lake (in addition to our big coffee pot). I got it a long time ago on sale for when the grandkids are there and want to make hot chocolate now and then and when I want just one cup of coffee now and then. We also have one at work I use once in a while. I did buy the reusable filter so I can use my own coffee if I want. So much better, and it definitely depends on the brand of coffee you use if you purchase the k-cups.

I do not use the KCups. I use refillable cups and my own fresh ground coffee beans. I was buying the KCups and spending an EASY $100 a month on coffee. I was buying direct from Keurig.ca (I love the Emeril brand), and realized I was being ridiculous spending that much on coffee. Now I buy a bag of Kirkland beans from Costco and it's about $15, I think. It lasts me a month and not one plastic KCup goes into the garbage.

I love my Keurig. I use it for one cup of coffee after supper in the evenings. During the day, we use our Bunn coffeemaker.

My son's SO told me that you can buy a regular monthly shipping service of K-cups from Amazon. I haven't looked, but I'm guessing it's pricey. I don't think I would use THAT MANY Kcups.

I learned the hard way that you have to be careful buying off-brands of Kcups because they won't all work in the Keurig.

DH bought a small one for me for Christmas years ago. I liked the idea of being able to fix just two cups of freshly brewed coffee and used the refillable "filter." Since then I got away from coffee and switched to tea, but I like the machine for when the kids visit. Everyone uses it then.

The refillable cup filters got old FAST. Finding the brand and blend you love is a challenge and once you find it chances are you could make a fresh pot daily for what the one cup will cost. Can you tell I wish I had never invested? It gives me nightmare to think of the k-cups filling landfills....three years in and no sign of breaking yet...when it does I will not replace it.

Newmans k-cups. I haven't been able to get the fill your own filter thingy to work for me. I may have been packing the grounds to tight. The grounds were still dry after brewing my cup.

I need two and a half cups of coffee once a day -- a half for me and two for DH. I doubt that any Mr. Coffee or similar brand heats the water enough to make good coffee. I'm happy with the Capresso automatic drip coffee makers I bought at Costco for about $75 each. (One at home and one here on Maui.) These use cone paper filters and have thermos carafes. Coffee brews almost too hot and stays hot for two hours. (Negative reviewers failed to warm the thermos prior to making coffee.) These are both two years old now. I've de-scaled each twice, using white vinegar.

I know these machines are a convenience for many people, but I feel sad thinking about the additional load on the nation's landfills of all those individual cups. One person, one cup a day = 365 k-cups a year. I know this isn't as bad as all the plastic electronic devices that end up there after a year or less of use, but still, more crapola in the trash to save someone a few minutes.

Greywings I understand what your saying and its true. I wonder though how many use the K brewer to save time or because they want a fresh coffee. I can set the coffee pot up in less than a minute, but for me its about freshness. I do not like coffee that sat on the warmer although I drank enough of it lol and still would be if this K brewer wasnt gifted to me.

I bought a Keurig. about 6 yrs ago then sold it. The coffee is too strong for me. I use the black & decker brew & go. Its so simple and just as fast as the Keurig. I just open the K cups for my cappuccino flavors and put it in the cup then the water pour on it. Its fine. The reason I do buy the K cups is that its fresh each time. It takes me about a year to go through a bag of coffee.

JoAnn, we were offered a Keurig for free and I didn't want it. I've only had the coffee a couple of times, in dealerships etc and I too think the coffee is too strong. It's so horrifically expensive, we love our Black and Decker coffee maker. Suits us to a T.

I love tea in the afternoon or at night. Coffee is just for the morning.

Many of us are happy with pre-ground coffee, either out of a can or out of a k-cup, but by definition this is not fresh coffee. According to coffee bean experts, coffee has to sit for a while after the beans are ground and before going into the k-cup so that the co2 in the beans can off-gas. This sit time can take days or weeks before it can be sealed in the k-cup and not have the k-cup explode.

Too-strong Keurig coffee has an easy solution: just put in more water. My Keurig has settings for 2,4, 6, 8, or 10 ounces. I usually do at least 10 ounces. For some flavors, I do 12.

With a thermos carafe, our coffee stays hot for two hours. My stomach won't tolerate acidic coffee that's been 'kept warm' on a hotplate.

My friend gave me a "Cup-at-a-Time" by Black and Decker (I think) and it has a permanent filter.

Being frugal, I drop in a spoonful of grounds ... then leave it, adding another when I want another cup ... and leave that ... and let the later a-bit-less-than-a-spoonful ones accumulate ... until there's a risk that the puff of steam at the end when the switch turns it off blowing a shot of grounds out into the water tank.

The grounds collected go into the compost, later on the garden.

I live a couple of miles from Canada's largest city's recently acquired landfill.

How long's it going to take till those "landfills" taking up scores of square miles of good farmland?

SIL has a Keurig and swears I HAVE to get one?!? It was fast, but I found it to taste a bit instant? My sister has a small one for her husband. She doesn't drink coffee at all and he only drinks a cup or 2, mostly on weekends. If I come across one at a YARD SALE, I would consider buying it... if the price was right, it worked and it was clean. I'd probably buy some of those cups you can fill with your own grounds.

both my sisters have one but not me. i like my coffee "pour over" style. to me its the only way!! so fresh!! i buy from a roaster. i have had coffee from a keurig and its just not for me., to me its weak & no flavor. coffee should be ground then used immediately. the coffee in k-cups sit for months. & all the land fill space is so sad. do we have to have everything fast?

You CAN recycle the k-cups, but you have to separate the plastic bottom from the top, which has aluminum. Throw away the filter and coffee grounds (or do whatever you normally do with filters and grounds. There's even a handy dandy little tool you can get ($9.99) to cut the tops off the pods. The link is to the website for the company that makes it, but they're also available on Amazon.

For those who prefer to drink a different brand of coffee, or who don't want to pay the price for the prefilled cups, Keurig makes reusable K-cups ($14.99). There are two different models, depending on the model of your brewer. The Keurig website has an easy graphic page to show you which one you would need. I don't drink coffee but DH does - one a cup a day. He found a small (off-brand) 1 cup coffee maker for $25 at The Christmas Tree Shoppe and he loves it. It uses the K-cups or regular coffee. He buys his coffee there as well...42 K-cups for $10 when it's on sale, (reg. $13), also an off-brand, but delicious according to several people who recommended it). We wait for a sale and stock up. Comes out to 23 cents per cup; a huge savings from the $1.05 he was paying when buying a cup on his way to work. Now, he makes it at home and takes it to go.

I'm recycling my K cups. Actually a friend bags hers up for me and has for a long time. I remove the top pull out the filter inside full of used grounds and wash all the plastic cups. I find uses for them. We all use these in the bathroom when brushing our teeth instead of dixie cups. I dose the boys liquid meds out of them instead of a medicine syringe than the med syringe isn't contaminated, just toss it. I measure first with a med syringe. I dose Amiees daily meds in them and toss. measure laundry detergent with them as they are perfect. I have a ton I'm about to use to start seedlings in inside. These little things come in handy.

Lindsey I bought a knock off brand of the reusable filters that's compatable with a Keurig at Walmart for 4.97.

My 4 cup maker is easy to make 1 cup. I can make "1 cup" in my 12 cup maker either. I find it hilarious that people think that a larger maker must be full. They must also think you can't drive a 6 seat car unless it's full of people! People are gullible to no end. Keurig is nothing unique. It's the biggest sell job/fad since the pet rock. It's also easy to make any amount in a percolator and you'll get better coffee from a good percolator than any Keurig IMO. Only a fraction of people who have Keurigs have even heard of cleaning them. Every time I see those things with the used, wet, mildewed soon to be moldy used pods sitting in them I gag and wonder how people like drinking that. Disgusting. Everyone I know who has them finds them to last at best a little over a year. For that kind of money I laugh at them and ask how much they paid for their pet rock and other gimmicks.

One friend argues "OH it makes SUCH GOOD coffee!!!!!" Yeah, then 6 months later it's not so good. And they always ask for coffee when they're here because my coffee "is so good!"

Plus I see many people who have gotten tired of the fad and realize that most people want more than a single cup, especially if they entertain so they buy a real coffeemaker to go with it. The novelty of standing in line for each person to make their own "single cup" has worn off in a lot of places.

If people really want to pay $100 or more for something that does nothing more than a $10-$30 appliance, and then pay anywhere from 40¢ to $1.00+ for each of the pods, no problem, they can go ahead and throw their money away for a status symbol. Just don't try to tell me it does things that it doesn't and don't try to tell me it's better or easier or can't be done with the other things.

I don't need a microwave toaster or a Keurig. I do much better without.

I love my Keurig but realize those little cups are an environmental disaster. They have come down quite a bit in price. Occasionally I run a cup of white vinegar through it two or three times using the same vinegar to clean it. Follow up with fresh water. I have one of the refillable attachments but didn't think the resulting cup of coffee was very clear.

I was given one, as a gift, last week, and immediately ordered the reusable coffee filters.

I have a lot of ground coffee, and loose tea, and certainly don't want to waste it.

Much cheaper than buying the pods, and I get to drink the coffee I like.

The reusable filter makes great tea, by the way.

We have a little one cup Black & Decker coffee pot that we found at the flea market, new and in the box for $5. It is exactly like a big pot only it's small. It has a reusable filter that you just put an 1/8 cup of coffee or less to make your coffee. We use the heck out of it when we want more than our big pot has made. They used to be $15 but are now selling for, I think, $30 since the fad of single pot coffee makers has taken off. But Cynic is right, you CAN make one cup of coffee in a regular old coffee pot. I'm not sure how much coffee you would have to put into that large filter to get a decent tasting cup though. I do, from time to time, pour another cup of water into the whole filter that is full of used coffee grounds to get another cup of coffee, in a pinch. It is usually quite weak though.
