We just redid the master bath in our reproduction farmhouse. We used soapstone for the counters, very basic 2" hex on the floor, and 6" square subway-style tile in the shower. I had trouble picking the wall color and painted it 3 times before I settled on Ben Moore's Violet Pearl (at the recommendation of posters on the home dec forum here.) It's a very light gray/lavender that goes well with all the white tile. Anyhow, here's my album if you'd like to see some photos:

Mayflowers, I appreciate the link. I had gone through that search and struggled--95% of the rooms are in that grey and white spectrum. :-( But there are one or two that I have saved.

Lily's mom, your bathroom sounds lovely. I am hesitant to do wood tile floors next to our real wood floors in the adjoining room--was this a concern for you? Any pics of how yours turned out?

lkplatow, I have seen your lovely bathroom pictures; thank you for sharing! I have wondered about a quartz that looks like soapstone, but I prefer it as you have used it--with the white cabinet rather than against the wood. Not sure if my hub will go for your lovely lavender-gray... :-)

Sorry - I somehow missed that you wanted white countertops and a wood vanity.

I do have a few wood vanity pics saved - no idea where they came from unfortunately. And they all feature dark countertops, for the most part -- I was pretty set on soapstone (which I do think looks very nice with wood vanities as well).

I almost went with a large-scale dark slate tile for our floors - I think that can look very farmhousey as well, especially with wood.

I'm going to try to upload some pics - maybe they will give you some inspiration.

If I went with a lighter, warm white quartz, could I get away with plain warm white walls, do you think? Or do we need a little contrast? A whiter countertop with warmer white paint?

Then, do I match paint and tile in tone? Or can I mix shades of cream there too?

I'm starting to lean toward a slate-like floor (still porcelain tile, but something that looks organic, like stone). Wondering about this inspiration too:

I wonder if creamy subway tiles with the grey grout could work in the shower, even with a white acrylic base? I'm still not sure how I feel about cream mixed with bright white, although I'm fine with the white fixtures generally with all colours...

I think it might be the winner. I love these lighter toned greys and how they are warmed by the wood and the cream. I just have to be convinced that in a small bathroom a 6'6" block of grey countertop won't be overwhelming. :-)

This vanity set up (well not in two pieces like the photo) will be on one side of the room, and the shower will be beside the door on the other side of the room. Any thoughts on how I could incorporate a wood accent at the shower? I think I would go with just a cream tile, in a similar colour to the walls. There won't be room for art on that side of the wall. Anyone think that just the metal of the hardware in the shower will add a bit of grey and that a loofah (or maybe a teak seat?) could bring over the wood? Or is that important in an 8x9 bathroom?! Probably not, lol.

Teak seat is what I was thinking.
