I am a happy camper now that I no longer have a glass top stove! I used a spray bottle of alcohol and water or vinegar and water usually.

Weiman Glass Cooktop Cleaner, the lotion formula called heavy duty. I've got the spritz spray too and don't find it very useful. I have the razor blade tool for the stoves but really don't have to use it, the Weiman has cleaned everything.

I'm not crazy about my Jennair downdraft but I'm careful with it and take care of it. I never begin to cook without it being clean. It's white. We've been here 4 years and I think the stove was included in a kitchen remodel that took place about 2005. It looks brand new, more than one person has asked me if I've recently replaced the stove.

I use Weiman's stovetop cleaner/polish. But first I just wash off as much as I can with one of those scrub daddys. Then any cooked on debris, I use a single edge razor blade to scrape it off. Then rewash and polish with the Weiman's. My nearly 3 year old glass top looks as good as the day it was delivered. I love it.

I use a wet cloth with some liquid dish soap and water. For stubborn spots, I sprinkle a tiny bit of barkeepers and wash off.

I use a stove top cream cleaner and I also use a plastic scrubby for something that has cooked on. When I take pictures to use on Facebook I put the item on the stove top so always have to keep it clean

I use the Weiman's also - a small story about Weiman's. I bought a container of their cook top wipes and when I got them home and went to use them, they were completely dried up. It was too far to return them, so I sent an e-mail to the url on the can, told my story and included the #'s on the container. Got a very nice e-mail back almost immediately (it was late on a Friday) which said that the one I bought was very old and offered to send me a replacement. The replacement came in less than a week and included a very nice hand-written note from the cust. serv. rep. I was very impressed and the new wipes cleaned my stove very nicely. I'll continue to use their products.

CeramaBryte works better than Weiman's IMO. I polish it with that and paper towels. I had a really bad spot the other day and Bon Ami took it off.

It is cleaned after every use. With warm soapy water and a scrubby sponge. Still looks brand new. It's got to be over 20 years old.

Just soapy water. If there is food burned to the stove I use a paint scraper (it came with the stove) and there is a polish made especially for ceran/glass stove tops to make them all sparkly again.

There was a kit that came with mine that included some plastic scrubbies, a razor blade scraper and a ceramic cooktop cleaner. Can't remember the brand, but it works great. I'm sure it's like Weiman's or CeramaBryte but it was distributed by Whirlpool products (it's a KitchenAid cooktop). I've only had to use the razor blade scraper once when something boiled over. The cream cleaner and a plastic scrubbie works great.

I keep it clean after each use and make it shine with either a mixture of alcohol and water or vinegar and water.

Thanks so much for the reply's. I had no idea I could use anything like Barkeepers Friend or plastic srubbies. I have just been using soap and water and that is not doing the job anymore.

My wife does the cooking but she gets frustrated trying to clean up after herself. What that means is she will fry eggs and not clean up the spatter before cooking something else and burning on the spatter.

I scrape the cooked on stuff with a single edge razor tool. Then I spritz the surface with the orange cleaner from Dollar Tree. Next I softly wipe over top to distribute the spritzed on spray with a green scrubber (the harsh one, but not the black one). Then I put half a squirt of foamy hand soap on the green side of the scrubber sponge and scrub it around more firmly. When that feels pretty smooth I dry with a paper towel...which gets a lot of the moisture but leaves a lot. Finally I wipe it dry with a microfiber towel.

If you are not using microfiber towels to clean glass, you're missing out on a big time saver. There are never any streaks. I learned about microfiber towels from a professional window washer. He uses one with soap (or just plain water) to wash and a dry one to dry.

I use a cooktop cleaner, the white stuff. Scrape it with a razor and then wipe clean.

A Scrub Daddy, soaked in hot water to soften it, accompanied by Bar Keeper's Friend. Never scratched yet.

I have always had good luck using razor blade and/or Windex glass cleaner. Silly me, I've never thought to look for Glass Cooktop Cleaner in stores! But I will in the future!

My electric glass top cook stove is 21 years old.. sigh... I still miss cooking on a gas cook stove!

Bon Ami. I use it on the cooktop and on the white Corning glass dishes that came with my first flat-top in the 1970's. The can still has the little yellow chick and the motto "Hasn't scratched yet."

When I moved down here I got the cheapest new stove I could find which was a Crosley. It cooked well and the oven maintained the correct temperature but the top would not get clean with Bar Keepers or anything. It had black marks all over the burners. So I went and bought an older but better condition glass top stove of better quality and that looks like new yet. So, does a lesser quality stove have lesser quality glass on the top?

First a razor blade, then softscrub to finish it.

(Probably) twenty-year-old stove (at least) with the windy heating units that was here in step-aunt's time prior to her death 16 years ago.

One more of life's problems that I've avoided.

They claim that the new units are so much more efficient ... that they save such a large amount of power, which is so much better for the environment.

But ... to build the new stove ... have they factored in the amount needed to dig out ore ... transport it to the smelter (which is an energy-hog) ... then to roll it, haul it to where they shape it, then add the plastic parts (also mostly sourced from scarce petroleum), plus all of the costs of sourcing, manufacture, shipping, etc. of the electronics, to the stove assembly point ... then haul the whole thing to the store ... and again to your house?

Shouldn't part of that cost be deducted from the savings that the improved unit produces, in that it's to replace a unit that was working well, before it was necessary?

Have they factored in that a portion of that cost is unnecessary, were one to have used the older machine to the end of its useful life, so should be charged against the energy saving produced by the lower usage by the newer product.

Apart from part of the cost of hauling the old, inefficient unit to the recyclers, sorting or pulling it apart and reprocessing ... earlier than would have been necessary, thus perhaps should be also partly claimed against the environmental costs of doing it before it was necessary?

Also what was the average working life of the earlier units ...

... and what is expected to be the average working life of the new ones?

How about dividing the original cost by the number of years of expected use, then adding the expected annual savings in power usage, to find the real cost per year?

Or ... are they mainly hungering for the profit to be realized on the sale of the new stove?
