Why are my rose stems drying and leaves falling

Praveen S

I brought 5 roses from my office (we do research on plants) I am an IT engineer.

So
these roses were probably doing well in Zone 11-13 where I live in
Delhi, India. When I brought them these 2 roses had small number of
leaves which fell off I thought it was due to winter.

The
stems tried sprouting few buds but even they fell off before they could
start forming leaves. One plant has completely dried out. That rose had roots when I unearthed it and some darkness on it. Somewhat black.

I thought it
was due to the fact that these two plants were earlier planted in a mud
pot by me. But even after shifting it in a plastic pot it does not seem
to be doing well.

I think this one will die as well. Nearly all stems have become bone dry so I had to prune it.

Conditions

I water them daily or on alternate days since the soil dries up pretty quickly.

They
were earlier kept in my balcony with minimal direct sun light now I
have moved them to the terrace with full sunlight but my house is near a
road don't know if the pollution got hold of it or what. Other plants
kept few cms apart are doing well even the other 3 roses

What can I do to keep it alive part of the main stem is still green. These are grafted roses.

small plant on the side is tamarind. Plant is growing in vermicompost and some local soil which is quite sandy.
