Hi; I grow a Rose of Sharon, but am not an expert. Is this particular tree getting enough sun, and enough water? Also, based on what I've read on the the forums Mexicanhat suggested, they probably want monthly fertilizing to bloom to their best. Kavell, Rose of Sharon only blooms on new growth, not old growth that was there from last year. If you prune them in the early spring before they start putting on leaves, they will grow and bloom in late summer on the new growth. Pruning a Rose of Sharon doesn't stop it from blooming, it encourages it, because it will grow and bloom on the new growth. Timing of the pruning is what counts. If the ROS had set buds already and then it was pruned, it won't bloom because the buds were cut off for that year. That is why it is especially important to prune in very early spring. DOn't worry about your bushes or tree-like ROS. Next spring just prune them back by 1/3 or less. Very early spring. No later than mid April. They will grow and set buds in May and June for their blooming again next summer which is probably towards the end of July sometime. Remember, don't prune off More than 1/3 of the plant. Don't fertilize the plant til July, if you must fertizile. You don't want to feed a stressed out plant, and by pruning it in early April, you are stressing it out. Good Luck! Towandaaz: Looks like you have about the same amount of growth as I have. You've got some nice basals coming in. Our last frost date is May 8...aaaannddd...we are supposed to get snow this weekend! That's going to wreck havoc in the garden. Everything started leafing out in February. All the fruit trees bloomed a month ago. The garden looked like this yesterday, but I'm afraid what will happen this weekend. I guess I'm just going to have to wait and see like rabainsz7bpnw says. Let me know how your Geoff Hamilton does. I've appreciated the photos of this rose for a long time, but heard that it is a stingy bloomer. Altorama: The soil seemed to be pretty moist when I checked it. The drip lines are running fine. The roses under the maple seemed to be doing the best.

Yeah, three or four years is pretty good. My cherimoya that I got from Home Depot last year flowered this year in late May thru June. I successfully hand pollinated about ten flowers, got fruitlets that grew to about 10mm. Over the course of the past two to three weeks, the fruitlets decided to drop on their own, leaving me with now three of the smallest fruitlets that I doubt will make it to harvest. :( i guess they drop because this is their first year flowering and producing fruit?
