This year it barely has any leaves and now I am officially worried. ==>>> what were you previously ... unofficially worried.. lol ... its most likely dead.. above the top most green shoot ... so cut all that off ... it may or may not thrive ... but one thing for sure.. it will never look like it did before ... so get that out of your mind ... during the next 3 to 5 years.. you will shape it into some new form .... frankly ... i would cut it to the ground... kill the stump ... and if i insisted on a ROS ... invest $20 bucks on a new one ... and plant it a few feet away ... where i could dig a hole .... thought this one may recover over the next 5 years.. a new healthy one.. might out grow it ten fold.. properly planted and all ... your choice ... i would have never worked as hard as you did moving such a large plant .. two thumbs up for that effort ... ken ps: any idea.. how it ended up leaning??? .... is it growing away from some large tree we cant see????

For 4 years I've tracked every bloom cycle of our 150+ rose cultivars from 14 classes. Our best blooming H.T.s are " Lemon Spice" and "Double Delight" "Miss Ashley" a H.T., but because they only produce 4 bloom cycles a year, with a yearly total average of c. 15 weeks of bloom per year, and have a longer period of dormancy, I would not call them everblooming, I would reserve that term to refer to China and Old Garden Tea class roses which bloom for more than 23 weeks a year, under the same conditions, it matters greatly to me because they give 2 more months of bloom. My roses that bloom every month from March through November are: "Mutabilis" not surprising since it's a China, "Ducher" a China-Tea "Nastarana" a Noisette with a strong China genetic influence. "Marie Pavie" Polyantha "Reve d' Or" Tea- Noisette "Lady Hillingdon" Old Garden Tea, blooms non-stop for 16 weeks during just its' first flush of the year. Others that produce 5 or more flushes a year are: "Angels' Camp Tea" Old Garden Tea "Duchesse de Brabant" and its' two sports. "Mme. Berkeley" Old Garden Tea Our China and Old Garden Tea roses bloom from March through November. Luxrosa

See if your ROS develops leaves this year. Plants can't "eat" if they don't have leaves. Could the bugs have eaten every single leaf on your bush? It didn't have even one or two leaves last year? I don't think a plant or bush or tree can survive without leaves. Pruning wouldn't have killed it, they are tough bushes. Hopefully, you will see life soon on your twigs. Keep your eye out for them soon, my ROS are already waking up with a little new growth. Good Luck!

My biggest Rose of Sharon suddenly exploded into bloom on Saturday, and the bees are so happy. I have a problem with this bush and I've been looking for help online. I haven't identified what kind this is, but it is huge and grows vigorously; single purple blooms. I'm assuming it's a pretty generic Rose of Sharon. This is my second summer with this yard & house. I didn't plant the bush/tree and it's now taking over the sidewalk. This is my husband's biggest peeve--I've spent the last year replacing or moving other plants that dared to flop onto the sidewalk. I must admit it's really out of control. I should have pruned it more this spring. How big do these guys get? Will it be horribly hurt if I prune it back now some more while it's blooming? It's right next to the house, in a narrow strip of ground (about 2-1/2 feet). Should we just remove the whole bush? It's about 8 feet tall and growing like crazy. It's so beautiful I hate to take it out. It has also made LOTS of babies so I have to decide whether they should stay or go too. I also have a Diana (white) that hasn't bloomed yet, and a double-lavender flowered bush in the backyard. I love them all.
