Carrot Cake - Do you have a favorite recipe?
Comments (7)I don't often come here, I mostly hang out of the Cooking forum....but stopped in and saw the request. this recipe came from a cookbook that is out of print, called "J.T's Cuisine"....and it is the best I have ever had. Carrot cake Julie Ts 3 eggs 3/4 cup vegetable oil 3/4 cup buttermilk 2 cups sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla 2 cups flour 2 teaspoons baking soda 3/4 teaspoon salt 2 tsps cinnamon 1 8 oz can crushed pineapple, drained 2 cups grated carrots 1/2 cup raisins chopped with 1 Tablespoon of flour Buttermilk glaze 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 tsp baking soda 1/4 cup buttermilk 1/4 cup butter 1 Tblsp light corn syrup 1 tsp vanilla Orange Cream Cheese Frosting 1/2 cup softened butter 4 oz softened cream cheese 1 tsp vanilla 3 cups powdered sugar 1 tsp orange juice 1 tsp grated orange rind Preheat oven to 350 With a mixer Beat eggs, add oil and buttermilk, sugar and vanilla. beat to combine. Stir together flour, salt, cinnamon and baking soda and stir into batter. stir in pineapple, carrots and raisins. Pour into a greased 8 by 13 pan or 2 greased round 9 inch cake pans. Bake 35 to 45 minutes until set in the middle. Remove from the oven and immediately spread with the buttermilk glaze. Cool completely and frost with the cream cheese frosting. Buttermilk glaze: In a medium sauce pan ( don't use a small pan) combine all ingredients but vanilla. Bring to a boil and cook 3 minutes stirring often...it will bubble a lot. It should be a light caramel color, stir in vanilla and pour over the cake Cream cheese frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter until light add vanilla powd. sugar and juice and rind...beat until smooth and frost the cooled cake...See MoreDo You Have A Favorite Brand or Flavor of Ice Cream?
Comments (33)I have never heard of Blue Bell until now, but its not available in California, darn :-( Sure sounds good ! My hubby loves Ice Cream, but I never buy it for myself, I do enjoy a cone from McDonalds once in awhile though and if we had a speciality Ice Cream Place I would probably like it, like 31 flavors. A few months ago they started putting in a Cold Stone shop, got it half built and we got excited about it, and then they just stopped , left and put in a small subway :-(...See MoreCar colors, do you have a favorite...or do you even care?
Comments (172)Along with heated seats and mirrors, my Audi has a heated steering wheel option that I love. Both the seats and steering wheel heat almost instantaneously. Although it's not as cold here in the PNW as some places, I love having a warm steering wheel most days/mornings of the year. I also wanted a back up camera, as I'm always delivering and picking up my grandson from school and those little ones can be hard to see walking behind the car. One feature I hate about this car, though, is they placed the bright headlight indicator on the lower left side of the instrument panel and, even though I'm not particularly short, I cannot see it without raising myself up to peer over the steering wheel. Not the wheel, but the center spoke/bar of the wheel; it hides the indicator. My good fried with a newer Volvo SUV says the same is true in her car...she can't see the indicator without lifting herself up to see over the wheel spoke. It also has the radio controls on the center console, so if you bump it or set your purse on the digital station settings, it whacks everything up and you lose all your presets. It's obvious that men engineer all these vehicles as the features are often not female user friendly....See MoreDo YOU have a favorite bowl for displaying fruit? Do tell.....
Comments (20)My fruit bowl isn't out right now-- but like chinacatpeekin, I like my fruit in a black bowl. I have a semi-rustic black matte bowl similar to the one below but a little bigger. Nothing fancy.. but I like how the matte black looks with limes, lemons, apples and oranges. I don't eat bananas....See More
