Any idea what could be causing my gardenia to brown?

Hey everyone. I'm in northwestern NC here. Was outside today and just noticed that all three of my gardenias are browning a bit on the south-southeast facing sides. They were just planted last Spring. At planting I used plenty of organic matter in the soil, made sure the pH was acidic. Fertilized them once every two weeks and watered twice a week all the way through late Fall and they were nice and green all the way to November.

Its been a very mild winter with only a small snow so I'm not too concerned about them having gotten too cold. We've had an abnormally warm last few weeks with days mostly in the upper 70s and I've just now noticed the browning. I have not started back watering yet because I wasn't sure what to do. Is it possible they need more water with the warmer days?
