What is causing my bean leaves to brown?
Comments (2)Thanks, jean. That's possible. We had rain almost every day for a month when these beans were germinating. I probably waited too long to water them because the soil was so wet for so long. I just wonder though, because no other vegetables (cantaloupe, okra, tomatoes, egg plant, basil) show signs of lack of water....See MoreWhat causes the tips of leaves to brown on houseplants?
Comments (3)There is a considerable list of cultural influences that can/do cause necrotic leaf tips and margins, and the effects of these influences cause symptoms that vary by plant. Foremost are things that impact the plants ability to move enough water to these distal plant parts to keep the parts hydrated. Too little water, over-watering, and a high level of dissolved solids (salts) in the soil are the most common, with over-watering and high salt levels much more common than under-watering. All three of those conditions are closely related to soil choice and watering habits. In fact, the largest step forward a container gardener can take comes from understanding how to manage these problems through soil choice. Some plants are sensitive to certain elements (like compounds of fluorine and chlorine) that can cause necrotic leaf tips/margins, and while low humidity shouldn't be considered a primary cause, it does exacerbate any marginal issues that originate with impaired root function. Nutritional deficiencies and toxicities should also be added to the list. Al...See MoreWhat is causing brown spots on my willow tree leaves?
Comments (2)Willows - Salix species - are prone to a host of fungal and insect issues but few that bother foliage enough to be a concern. Too often folks freak out about leaf spotting or minor insect issues and rush to spray something........usually unnecessarily. Plants get problems and blemishes - pretty much a fact of life and the natural course of events. At this time of year, as ken notes, there is nothing you need or should do other than clean up fallen leaves and discard....See MoreFig Leaves Turning Brown. What's causing the problem?
Comments (2)Thank you, Matt! I searched fig rust. You are right. This does look like rust. The leaves are falling off now. No growth. All leaves are infected. If I remove all leaves, will some leaves grow back this year? Or I have to wait until next Spring for any new leaves? It seems any copper fungicide would work. Should I apply some now? And again next Spring?...See MoreSeedG (Zone 9b - 10b)
