Comments (10)My sister is here from out of state for a month. It's the first time she's been home since Mom died in October, and sis is going through some tough stuff in her life. Someone gave her the book before she came here, and she is reading it...says it is EXCELLENT but that it took awhile to get into it. Several other members of my extended family have said the same thing, and most said they read it slowly (read awhile, then put it down to absorb and think about it before resuming). In a twist of fate (or something more?), the author was in town last weekend and spoke at a local church. It was standing room only, and sis said it was awesome. I may read it --- or listen to the audio version. Since I read so much as part of my job, it's not something I like to do casually....See MoreHas anyone ever read
Comments (8)I'm not familiar with that book, Jamie, but one that I often recommend is No Goodbyes: My Search Into Life Beyond Death, by Adela Rogers Sr. Johns. It's an old book, but used copies are available on Amazon and elsewhere. St. Johns was a famous journalist who covered the big stories of her day, including the Lindbergh kidnapping. After she lost her son in WWII, he began communicating with his sister through automatic writing. St. Johns applied her journalist's skills to investigate the survival of the spirit after death. I read it before my daughter Jill died, and thought it was excellent. Of course I read it again afterward....See MoreHas anyone read this book?
Comments (14)I havent read the book either but i also recall the story. Yes, there have been numerous stories of lost hikers on the AT and on its west coast counterpart, the PCT as well. Further, nefarious people on any trails are not new. If anyone read ’Wild’ you will recall the author was approached by some men, apparently hunters, while setting up camp one afternoon. She felt uncomfortable after speaking with them and as soon as she could, she broke camp and hiked on. I think this was also portrayed in the movie. My good friend rides trails, never alone. She had an uncomfortable feeling not long ago when they came upon someone just sitting in a vehicle smoking where they planned to start riding. Their plans changed very quickly, even though both were carrying concealed....See MoreHas anyone read "The Wardian Case"?
Comments (3)Another good book by David Fairchild (an American botanist and plant explorer, said to have introduced more than 200,000 plants including agricultural edible varierites into the US) along those travel importing of plants lines is The World was My Garden: Travels of a Plant Explorer by David Fairchild....See MoreBluebell66
