I read it several years ago. Yes, it was a good read and some parts of it resonated with me. It wasn't the best book I ever read, and I don't think I've ever recommended it to anyone, but it's worth reading, esp. if you have Christian leanings or maybe not, depending where you fall on the spectrum. I don't see that many movies and this one probably won't be on my list of must-sees.

Like Linelle, I read it several years ago when it first came out. I liked it, and remember thinking that the author had Queen Latifah in mind when he was writing it. I believe that Octavia Spencer will be great in that part, though. I loved her in The Help, and thought she stole every scene she was in. And yes, I am planning on seeing the movie. I'm also planning on seeing Hidden Figures.

I picked it up at the library too, when I saw it on the new books shelf. Couldn't get into it szo I returned it without reading it. I recently saw it is a movie now, too.

I read it and found the story interesting and reasonably thought provoking if not well written. I liked the way it handled a difficult subject and hope that isn't too graphic in the movie. I will watch the movie only because I like Sam Worthington.

I read it a few years ago, and did like it but ended up not finishing it. I found it a little hard to suspend (dis)belief and also found that not being versed in Christianity made it more challenging to follow. It wasn't that I resented the Christian references, but I didn't really "get " some of them and felt I was missing out. I do remember up until that point though, thinking it was a great read.

Mary lu, it's just a book. Get it from the library and decide for yourself. Maybe you will love it, lots do, or maybe not.

It has been a few years. It was an interesting read. A curious perspective on God and man and our relationship, an idea about forgiveness. The theology presented doesn't really hold up. I read it because I appreciated that a popular book offering had a Christian bent. I won't spend money on the movie and when it is on TV I would be surprised if I watched it. It is too OFF in the end.

I tried... really tried and I didn't get it and I'm the kind of person that likes crazy, out there crap. I'm watching the OA right now and it makes more sense and is a helluva more believable and entertaining compared to 'the shack' whatever it's supposed to be about. ???
