Mom's roses second flush
Comments (13)Renee, both your mom and you are so amazing gardeners! I love the first photo of your mom's garden especially. All the pink roses complement each other so well. And the photo of your garden with Cl. Pinkie on the arbor is hard to beat. All the pictures look as if we are talking first flush not second, by the way :-)! Thanks for letting us participate in the garden miracles that your mom and you create! Comments (18)So lovely! I'm a little envious of your cooler weather and rain. We've had record-breaking heat lately and no rain for awhile. Anyway, your roses obviously appreciate the weather - not to mention all the TLC that they get from you....See MoreWondering about my spring flush
Comments (14)I get it... My roses look a little stressed. This spring has given them really wide temperature swings between 30-40 degrees of daytime to nighttime temps. Ex: 70 degree warm sunny days to 34 degrees for an early morning low. Some of the rose bush growth looks sort of stunted. And, the wind? Holy cow - we had gusts to 40 mph a few days ago. Mama Nature will have her way, won't she? About 3 weeks ago, my Peace rose was budding out so much and I was so excited. Now about half of the buds have fallen off and as I mentioned the growth looks stunted. I think a fourth of buds are still on the plant. Same with Geoff Hamilton - the buds look really weird and they may all just fall off. :-( I have to say I was a little depressed about it but, life goes on and I'll keep up the good work. The roses close to the house have fared better and I've babied the new roses by covering them or bringing them inside at night. My second year Eden that's close to the house looks great and has over 60 buds on it. I've gone to great lengths to protect it just so I can see the display. I've also compensated for the current situation by purchasing a few blooming roses from local sources just to have some blooms around. Keep your chin up Sara Ann and enjoy the beauties you mentioned!...See MoreLast blooms of my 2019 spring flush
Comments (30)HI Carla - I did check the forecast and noticed that 90s are expected in a week or so. I guess that's ok since my flush is over and the roses are about to recalibrate. The average summer temperature in my area is about 85-87 which is pretty good for roses! My Spiced Coffee is growing under a tree so I can vouch that it's somewhat shade tolerant but I don't know about super strong sun. It's a lovely fragrant rose with varying shades. Here's a collage I did last year when I first planted it. In my experience roses in their very first year can show a lot of variability as this one does. I'm wondering if Spiced Coffee will continue being variable in year two or will it start to standardize in appearance? I guess time will tell! Ann...See Morejacqueline9CA
