Need advice on sisal/ jute-type rugs
Comments (17)I did a lot of research on natural fiber rugs last year. I was primarily concerned with durability, and ended up with seagrass. Jute is softer, but it sheds and is not water repellant the way seagrass is. It is my understanding that seagrass and sisal are the most durable. I bought a large 9x12 rug fom pottery barn for very little. I don't have a cat, but do have a large dog and 2 small kids. It still looks practically brand new, and it has dog vomit and urine on it. (I feel compelled to say that neither were from MY darling pooch. ;-) ). It isn't soft underfoot, and I really hesitated on whether it would be appropriate in our living room. But we don't mind it, and my kids still sprawl out on it with no complaints. It did make my house smell like hay for a good week. That didn't really bother me though, as it reminds me of my grandfathers farm....See MoreDo ya'll like Jute rugs
Comments (14)We have a jute, sisal or seagrass rug in the sunroom. I can never remember which one it is. I have to say, we really like it. My only complaint is that it is not that comfortable to stand on bare foot for any length of time. Ours is several years old and we have had no problems with it. It is only the two of us and one small *pup* but she basically ignores rugs. LOL Our sunroom gets a good bit of use and as we have a patio off that room, we are frequently in and out. So far, our rug doesn't look dirty. We vacuum often but to the best of my knowledge, nothings ever been spilled or dripped on it, so no stains. I honestly don't know how it hold up to something like that. I can say that it's had wet feet across it, but you'd never know it. I do think that much of the dirt filters down through the rug and you do need to take it up occasionally (which can be a bit of a bother since ours covers much of the floor in the room) and vacuum/mop underneath. It's worked great for us in the location we have it in and still looks new. tina...See MorePet friendly rug recommendations (aside from seagrass/jute)
Comments (12)Thank you thank you thank you to everyone who directed me to soumak/polypropylene rugs. I don't know why I didn't even look at recycled polyester and the like. Years ago, these rugs use to look and feel very cheap and so I only purchased silk, wool, or cotton rugs to date. However, I just purchased 4 rugs off the esale rug site, of which I'll keep 1 or 2 (thanks to their seemingly generous return policy - has anyone returned a rug? Is it as easy as they say?) after trying them out with the furniture and seeing which rug colors work the best. And Carol, sorry, I forgot to write that out. GSD is a german shepherd dog. Mine's a 1 year old and absolutely hilarious. Her name is Shadow but she's also an escape artist so we sometimes call her El Chapo (after the escaped drug lord). Here she is:...See MoreSisal or jute rug for this foyer? Where to purchase?
Comments (27)Thanks everyone for your great ideas. I will check out the links mentioned like esalerugs, PB and Ikea. I'll also look for a soft muted rug like aktillery's - what a beautiful room! aprilneverends - thank you :) The agents and stager were actually very impressed with our home and all we have done. They just had a few suggestions for a few rooms to better show the spaces. They're just recommendations though and we're free to take them or not. (Like getting rid of the wall mounted flatscreen in the master that DH took great pains to plan for in the update - probably a good idea but we're just going to have to work around that one - hopefully it will appeal to the male buyers!) I've actually always wanted a rug in the foyer because of the dust brought in though. I've even posted here looking for suggestions because these types of design details aren't intuitive to me, but never got around to getting one. Somehow I think my usual practice of putting an old folded up towel down in front of the door might be a bit of an eyesore when showing the house :) It's actually pretty embarrassing in any circumstance!...See Moreravencajun Zone 8b TX
