Where do you keep your thermostat set?
Comments (13)Hi Jan, I can tell you about our down comforter. We have almost a 2" thick one. It is stitched in squares and filled with mostly all down. The sides are not stitched down but have a piece of material stitched so the loft is raised. And I believe it is double stitched. None of the feathers have ever gotten out. Well worth the investment. We have had it for 10 years. I do wash it in the spring then let it sun dry outside. We have a duvet on it so it's easy to keep the surface clean. As for warmth there is nothing like it! And we sometimes use it in the summer with the air on and it's not to warm. I think it breaths so it can be used in all seasons. Don't buy a cheap one it's an investment that will reward you for a long time. And many can be found on sale w/coupon in January. Duvets can be made or purchased. Target has them at a resonable cost. Besides a sheet it's the only blanket we use!...See MoreWhat temperature is your fridge / freezer set on?
Comments (15)I keep a thermometer in two refrigerators and both their freezer compartments, one in my upright freezer. Refrigerators run between 36-38F, their freezers set to 0 although the KitchenAid in the kitchen will often be 5F, and the freezer compartment in the garage refrigerator as warm as 10F....but I only keep extra ice there and occasionally something very short term. My freezer holds steady at 0. Long term storage of food is recommended best at -10F to -5F up to 0 F, no warmer. BTW - I keep a thermometer in the oven too. Industry standard used to be 'off 25 degrees either way is acceptable' (it may still be the standard although I haven't worked in an appliance store in decades now ;0)), enough to make a difference when baking....See MoreDo you grow your Citrus trees inside in winter and what's your set up?
Comments (48)Bklyn, it looks like you are using the same lights as I. Nice. Are those L.E.D light bulbs? Socal very nice. I love that reflection. It looks very bright in there. NO wasted light for sure. Kvetch, you are not kidding there. I can't believe how LONG we have had this cold, snow, and below average temps, and it's not even winter yet. I keep looking at the ten day forecasters outlook and now I see 30's . no 40's. I think I am going to be sick. The ones on the porch I have to water often if I use a fan. If I don't use a fan, it can take a few weeks before they need watering, but they only stay moist thank God. The one in my all season porch, I have to water those every few days because it's much warmer in there, much more sunlight, and I also use fans. LOl. I hear you about window hogging..lol Right now my tree and orchids are competing for the best spot. Jenny, very nice. One of these days I am going to get an Australian lime. Does it produce lots of flowers that smell nice? I would go after the fragrance more than anything.. Laura, didn't it seem like yesterday when we were growing them all outside? Boy do I miss the days when all you had to do was use a hose..((( Yes, all the twist and turns one has to take to get around each tree can be such a pain. Very nice looking too.I hear you got a couple of scale? That's easy to get rid of once and for good. Let me know if you need a suggestion.)...See MoreDo you unplug your tree when you leave the house if you have pets?
Comments (26)Over 50 years ago, my parents had a cat. Every Christmas, we would find Mehitabel (yes, named for the famous cat in the book, Archie and Mehitabel) sitting on a sturdy branch, right up against the trunk of the tree, staring at us like the Cheshire cat. Now this was a tree with that old-fashioned tinsel put on it, lovingly one or two pieces at a time (it took forever!), and not one strand was out of place. We never saw Mehitabel get up in the tree, nor did we ever witness her descent. She looked quite lovely with her eyes "glowing" from the tree lights! She was quite a character. None of our cats ever got up IN the tree, but they did knock it over during the night one time (nasty old-style Christmas tree stand). We tied it to something from then on and never again heard that unmistakable sound in the middle of the night....See More- 9 years ago
