Depends on the weather. In the winter the wood stove is on & it is 70 deg & in the summer the a/c is always on & that is at 74. Have to keep the babies happy.

I have my heat set between 63-68 in the winter. Maybe 70 on occasion or if we have company. I just pile on layers to I don't have to crank it up.

I wouldn't turn it down past 63-64 for my dogs.

In summer, I wouldn't let it get past 72, just as a round figure.

I feel the same as ElizabethA. After all, if we are too cold, we can put on an extra layer, and if we're too hot, we can strip something off. An animal cannot do either of those things. They become accustomed to the temperature inside the house and, in my opinion, it should stay that way. After all, if the thermostat setting(s) do not cause undue fiscal alarm for me and/or my husband, why should the setting(s) cause fiscal alarm to us because of our beloved animal(s)?

My house is at 60 when not at home, and at night, 65 in the daytime (in winter). In summer I let it get much warmer, 75-78. It is funny that I will feel too cold if the temp is lower in summer, but I'm comfortable (with a good sweater) at a the lower temps in winter. The dog and cat have cozy beds but don't always use them. ETA 60 is not a cold temp in the scheme of things -- today, for example, when it was 60 outside, people were out playing without coats. After winter temps, 60 feels warm to us. Dogs and cats were designed, with their fur, to tolerate a moderate temp.

In summertime we keep it very cool for the dogs. Winter, they're warm enough without the heat on.

I never adjust the thermostat. 72 in the winter, 80 in the summer. If the wood stove is in use, it's probably 75-80° in the LR.

We only have the heat on during the winter months and have it set at 70/72. My Dachshund loves to burrow under fleece blankets; so she has one in her crate, on our bed, the guest bed and sofa. She even likes to be under a blanket when it is in the 90's.

We set our thermostat to 66-67. Our pets all have heated beds or pads they sleep on. We went that route in an attempt to keep them off our beds and upholstered furniture.

When I had pets, I always made sure it was nice for them to be in when alone, either heat in winter or cool when hot. They deserve like us to be comfortable.

I only worry about my dog during a heat wave. She has doggie door access to the back yard year round. She played outside by choice in a storm today. Prancing in the downpour, rolling in the mud. If we lived where it snowed she would probably be outside make doggie snow angels.

I keel my heat set at 68 during the day and off at night. Its never gone below 62F in here so my grands and the dog are fine.

Lily (dog) is tiny so I do have to watch she doesn't get a chill. She sleeps on my bed at the feet on top of my covers. I have a small heated blanket with a duvet cover over top that she lays on, than she covers with a baby size comforter that's in a duvet cover that I've made from old sheets. Shes a clean little girl and I don't need to wash her comforter more than every 2weeks, but her sheet and duvet cover gets changed every 2 days. She sheds very little. I know some people will frown at a dog in bed, but she's right where she wants to be and its fine with me.

We're Northeast too. In the winter I put it down to 68. Our dog makes himself quite at home on our bed, or we have a few cozy throws on chairs and sofas.

It varies, but we do try to keep the house comfortable for pets when we are away.

In winter, my downstairs heat is usually set at 71 - my hands get cold and I'd need gloves if lower. Unless it's below freezing outside, I rarely turn the heat on the 2nd floor on at all - it's 65 if I do. It's turned off early evening as I like to sleep in a cold room.

In summer, AC is usually set at 73 on main floor; it's usually at 62-65 on the 2nd floor.

I don't work so I'm rarely gone more than 4 hrs tops - usually less.

If it's daytime in the winter, I might turn heat back to 65 if I were going to be gone 4 hrs. There is a base cabinet in the kitchen that has a dog bed in it. Until recently, I had two dogs and they would be very cozy in it.

If I were going out for the evening and going to bed when i git home. I'd definitely lower the heat to 65 before leaving.

In the summer, AC stays as is - takes too long to cool down.

In winter when we're out the heat is off until late afternoon then off again at 8:30 p.m.. |t is always off at night and in the morning. DH and I like to wake up to a cold house. And my dogs run very hot so they would love if it never came on. My cats have heated pads and wool blankies everywhere and use them when cold. The goldfish doesn't seem to care. ;) The temp drops to 60 at the most. The heat is off here all spring summer and fall until late November.

68 in the winter and 72 in the summer. My dachshund covers himself in blankets 12 months of the year. It could be the biggest heat wave and he'll be hidden under his blankie. Yet we walk in 7-degree temps...him with two coats on.

It wasn't cheap, but our new HVAC system has a 'pet sensor' and can adjust the temp as needed!

We keep our heat turned down as well. 65-66 in the daytime and 60 after dark for the cats. My husband has an electric throw, I have a down throw so we both are comfortable....and our utility bills are very low as a result. Our animals all have fur so they do well in colder weather too although our Lab does enjoy getting under her blanket when we go to bed...we sleep with the window open (and our rooms door shut) so it does get a bit chilly.

I've never set temps specifically for pets? One of the reasons I got a programmable thermostat, years ago, was that I was often walking out the door and leaving heat on at a much higher temp than needed for "someone" walking around in a FUR COAT all day!?! Temps for ME range from high of 70(while awake or at home) to low of 62 (while at work or sleeping).

Cat enjoys when heat is on and warm air blowing out of vents. She will sometimes move to be close when heat cycles on.

I'm in NJ, so 4 distinct seasons. House is split-level so really not easy to get consistent temps... especially during hot or cold weather. First level is all on concrete slab. Your feet get cold if in kitchen for any significant amount of time in winter. If I cranked thermostat up to even try to get temp in kitchen to 67-68 every ther place in house would end up unbearably hot. In summer, kitchen level is the most comfortable... when I had dogs, that's were they would sprawl out... on the cool tile.

Peeka has really long hair! A fluffy kitty bed, a down comforter on all the beds or a Pendelton wool blanket on top of the fireplace where he hangs out. The thermostat is set at 58F. We ALL sleep together, cuddled up at night, unless he's too hot, then he sleeps on the wingback chair.

On June 29, 2012 we had a Derecho blow through. My power was off for 4 days because of the destruction in & around my area.

Everyday was in the 90's outside and my house was SO darn hot. Luckilly the basement was cool so the dogs & I lived down there for those 4 days.

Although when I left the house, the dogs would still come up to the main level & sleep on the couch, which was their normal routine. Even though it was 92 degrees on that level. They could have went back down to the basement to cool off, but I doubt they did.

Moral of the story, they had plenty of water & knew the basement was cooler & a bed was down there if they became too uncomfortable. But I think they toughed it out.

Now, under normal circumstances, I don't change my thermostat for the dogs when I leave the house. Since I'm on disability, I'm never gone long enough to gain any financial reward for increasing or decreasing the temperatures by a couple degrees, although I'm sure the dogs could care less either way.

I keep my house at 68 year round. I live in Florida and it is super hot in the summer. I am like a lot of people. I am rarely gone for more than a couple of hours. If I am going to be gone for the day I do turn the TV on for the animals. When I come home they are usually piled up in front of the TV lol. I think they are so used to people being home they like the sound of voices when we are not here.

In the winter the heat is turned on in the living room and my husband's bedroom and a small bath down stairs is also on. The living room and his bedroom is set at at least 77 degrees. Too hot for me. I very seldom turn heat on elsewhere in the house. Izzi has lots of fur in the winter so she does not mind the rest of the house is cooler. It is electric ceiling heat. He always sits with a blanket on when in his recliner, which is all day long. Never turn the heat down at night either. If the rest of the house should get colder than 40 degrees the thermostat will kick on. Izzi sleeps in my room on her own bed on the floor at night.

prefer the cooler side (or cooler than I) so I have to wear a sweater &
socks. Likewise in summer, I could do
without central air, but have it on for them.
