Should I toss out my citronella plant or try to save it?

A
few months ago I came home to find that my bf had transplanted my
plant. I appreciated it (it was something on my to-do list). However, it
was a plastic pot with no drainage. I'm a very busy grad student and
have never kept plants really. I thought if I tried to transplant it
that day it would go into shock or something and die, but I kept
forgetting to do it and now I see that the stalks have turned brown and
the bottom leaves are drying out/falling off. I read that usually in
these cases it's usually too severe of a case of root rot to save the
plant. Should I try to examine the roots, get the bleach and fungicide
and save it or should i just toss it before my neighboring plants catch
the fungus? Because of my schedule I am almost leaning towards just
throwing it out... It's a shame because it was doing so well before :/

tcamp, my NJ Citrus are getting kicked out TOMORROW! So DONE with this Winter, our minimum was only 15 F. but Feb. had persistent deep snow and March was COLD. I just threw it away. I didn't even try to smell it. Better safe than sorry does seem to apply. It was about four dollars for the chicken, but I throw leftovers away all the time so this time I just threw it away before it became leftovers! Thanks for the healthful advice! I've never frozen garbage btw! Maybe the next time I finish a carton of eggs, I 'll freeze the empty carton just to see what it feels like!

You could do double duty...pop a couple seeds right next to it in case this one doesn't recover. If it does recover, just pull the new seedlings. Regarding your porch idea until the storms subside...not a problem at all. Kevin

at a 1.48 each.. its probably not worth the gas back to return them ... back in the day .. i learned more winging it.. like you did ... than i ever did from a book ... no WWW to chicken little me into action ... lol ... they are perennials ... there is no reason they should not come back ... its also hail storm season .. and if you read forums.. you will find many peeps moaning that mother nature did the same as you did ... it might not be a bad idea.. to isolate them somewhere ... treat them ... and plant in fall .. as a newb.. lets be clear... just about everywhere.. but maybe the PNW ... july/august is not a great time to be planting ... yes it can be done ... but dont be surprised if they struggle or fail .. it took me about 20 years in the garden to realize... just because i bought it.. doesnt mean its the right planting season ... and if you dont have 20 to 100 pots for fall planting.. you arent trying very hard... lol ... moving and planting perennials... is done in spring and fall .. for the EASIEST time ... as your experience grows ... you can wing it more... mostly because if you lose them. you shrug and say oh well ... live and learn ... try not to panic in the garden.. it kinda defeats the whole purpose of meditating in the garden .... ken
