I don't think they're tilted. Tiles are thicker on one edge to give depth.

I've installed standard flat tiles with lippage like that. Thank goodness it was part of the design and intentional.

Some people really want shadow lines and more of a tactile surface, even in showers. In showers I'll push the top edge of the tile in just a bit and let the bottom edge stand proud just a bit to promote water sheeting down the wall. The raking light from the ceiling will show more shadow lines on the wall. Some people dig it.

As a visual feature on a non wet wall, the offset can be much more substantial.

Tactile, 3-D, geometric patterns have been coming on strong now for a few years. Much more common in commercial over the past decade or so, but in residential they've been making headway, even here in colonial-esque New England.

Usually it's a feature within the wall versus an entire wall.

3-D tiles, there is quite a variety available in large format and panel size.

I love the look, very dynamic. Would need the brush attachment to the vacuum cleaner to dust.

Love the depth it gives the wall, but wouldn't want to clean it.

I think it's a great look, but it would have to be in a great, expansive space to show it off.

I think these are all the same thickness, just the top ones were set at an angle. I've seen large format 3-d tiles which I like, but these are different. There is a light strip above which accentuates the 3-d effect. And, this is in a large area, probably 25' long and 10' high. Not sure why all of them are not set at an angle, just the ones at the top. Perhaps something is going to be installed against the wall on the bottom section.

I have a feeling that some other unusual tile will be installed in this space, as well. I'll take more shots and post them as tile progress continues.

It's a fun idea for a commercial space. It eliminates the need for large art.

Not so sure about this idea in a home.

As Eld6161 says, I think it's most appropriate for the large scale of a commercial space.

Also appropriate for a commercial area with a professional cleaner. I wouldn't want to keep it dust-free.

Yes, have definitely seen more in past few years. Here's a few pictures we took at the International Surfaces Event last month.

Dimensional tiles are on trend. They are a definite wow factor, but can be a bear to clean. If the top of the tile is not slanted enough to let water roll off, I would not recommend it for wet areas, as water can sit on the top edge of the tiles and encourage mold and mildew.
