How much does color matter to you?
Comments (15)I do want to just mention that some colors are not as unusual as we tend to think of them. Just because the eggplants in the grocery stores are all dark purple and exactly the same size and shape doesn't mean they define the "right" color for eggplant. The varieties in the store are the descendants of the ones best suited to truck and plane shipping and mass agriculture, so they've become the iconic images in the minds of those of us who utilize grocery stores. Most of the so-called unusual colors are simply heirlooms; few have been bred recently. But I suspect plant breeders are currently actively working on more -- it's a hot trend in gardening. Just as some heirlooms are superior while others are forgotten for good reason, I would guess any new colored varieties will have to stand on their own two roots to pass the test of time....See MoreHow much does size matter?
Comments (10)I have a Quadrafire 2100. It's not all that big but pretty much heated my entire house (that's about 2100 square ft) all last winter. I live in New England and the winters are pretty cold. When it's below 5 degrees out I would sometimes need to turn on the heat a little upstairs. Otherwize the lowest the upstairs would get was about 61 degrees. I'm not sure of it's BTU producing power but it's the smallest they sell. It has a nice window as well. I keep it running 24x7. If I load it up at around 10:00 p.m. I'll have enough coals to get going again in the a.m. If you have some fans to blow the heat around your house, you may be able to get away w/the smaller stove. I love looking at the fire and wouldn't care for going to the basement to check that it's still burning and to load wood....See MoreDoes anyone have 'The Galley Sink'? How do you like it?
Comments (178)I have two Galley sinks and I am so diapointed with them. I would love to remove them, but I cannot without destroying my counters because of the way these sinks mount, which is different from most kitchen sinks. Just be aware, that when you purchas a Galley sink, it is permanent unless you want to redo your counters too. What I don't like about them is how messy they look. I have a busy household, so lots of dishes and every time the water is turned on, it spots the sink unless I hand dry it. This is impracticle for a busy home. Food sticks to the sides of the sink easily and the corners are very hard to clean. Also, the ledge where the boards rest, gets wet because of dish washing so the caulking breaks down easily and there is a moldy rim around the edge of the sink becuase of this design. (I had the caulking fixed within a year, but it happens in a matter of weeks) . I contacted the company and they sent me a product to clean it, but the product was like other products I can buy and the problem is the design and the materials. The company also comes acorss as uncaring and poorly skilled when dealing with customer disapointments. I had a stainless steel sink before and never experienced it looking like this, I actually liked that sink. Also, their bamboo boards broke down very easily. I had new boards made out of walnut and my new boards have lasted two years getting wet daily, with no extra drying from me and they look great. I think Galley sinks wants to be this fancy company but it's just cheap materials, cheap product, cheap customer service. Again, I wish I could remove them, but I cannot without destroying my counters and my counters are so expenisve that I am stuck with these horrible sinks. Good luck with your house remodel!...See MoreAnyone have a 'free shipping' code for Penneys?
Comments (8)That APRSERV09 is awesome! I just placed a very large order and saved 15% off EVERY item, even their clearance items in the outlet section. I got a ton of winter items that I will save for either winter or, perhaps, as Christmas presents for my daughters. They still have a good bit to chose from. Thanks!...See Moredbarron
