How much does color matter to you?

There are so many reasons to love homegrown produce, I have to admit that one of mine is the ability to have colors and varieties that are usually unavailable elsewhere. It makes me happy to have a colorful harvest and prepare meals that are vibrant and beautiful. I always plan my garden around having as diverse a harvest as possible, even though I usually have a crop or two that doesn't produce it's still worth it to try new things.

My favorite colorful crops so far have been purple cauliflower, carrots, and potatoes, watermelon radishes, and of course heirloom tomatoes. Some day I might set up a hothouse and try to grow purple sweet potatoes, because I haven't had one since I was a kid and my dad lived in Hawaii and I miss them terribly!

Do you care what color your produce is? What are your favorite unusual crops?
