Allot of the places mentioned are not close to Ft Laud, Fairchild & Fruit and Spice Park are a HIKE! Especially since you are coming while it is season hear, traffic is getting bad. Both are great recommendations, Fruit and Spice park is neat for unique fruit treas and they just rebuilt a portion of the park. It is a cool area out there, with allot of small farms, very pretty. Really, a different side of Florida. Gates at pompano mall is a bust, you will be disappointed. It is nice for locals for something specific, but it is no bigger then a 7 eleven. Not sure how elaborate you are looking for. Near pompano mall is NuTurf, 12 acres. But nothing out of the ordinary. Flamingo Nursery http://www.flamingoroadnursery.com/ is really neat and just down the street is Flamingo Gardens Park http://www.flamingogardens.org/. Living Color Nursery garden http://www.livingcolorgardencenter.net/ is really nice, big and extensive. If you are curios, check out Morikami http://www.morikami.org. It is a fairly good size japanese gardens, will take you a couple hours at least to get through. These I mentioned a in the general Fort Lauderdale are or just outside the limits (next city or two over). If you were looking for free and close, and could pick only one, go to living color nursery. Looking for all out and do not care about the drive, Fairchild! Want to stay local and see something different that will cost you 15 bucks, go to Morikami. If you got the day, and want to stay local, Go to Morikami in the Morning, Shoot over to Flamingo Gardens, close the day out at Living Color Nursery.

Hi Depends on your soil. I grow mine in large pots sunk into my sand lol How do you want to grow them?? They will become trees eventually so I follow the normal GH regimen of pruning keeping them under 3 feet. Tree form makes a fantastic display though. My red tends to flower at thankgiving while the whites and pinks are right on at mid winter They are very brittle and do get a few caterpillars but the brachts last from thanksgiving to around easter depending on the weather be sure they have good drainage as they rot easily If other things grow in your soil I'd go ahead and put them in the ground but if you have pure sand such as mine they'll do better in a pot good luck gary
