Is your rhubarb up yet?
Comments (23)Vlad, as you know darn well, you aren't any more un-biscuit-ish than I am -- or if you are, it's a difference you'd need an electron microscope to measure -- and I make them. So you can too. Just be brave! (Or you can go straight for the strawberries and champagne.) Treble, you can freeze rhubarb cut up and raw, or you can cook it and then freeze it, or you can can it, or you can make jam. As for how to eat it, whatever you use applesauce for, you can use cooked rhubarb for -- unless you're a fan of apples and peanut butter; I'm not sure that rhubarb and peanut butter would be a good combination. Keep in mind, though, that you have to use unbelievable amounts of sugar. Every year I (not a fan of sweet sweets) look at my rhubarb pie recipe, and every year I think to myself, "It can't possibly need all that sugar!" and every year I decide that yes, it does. Comments (15)BLTs are one of those things, I can take 'em or leave 'em. I never found them to be overly satisfying. Nice snack, yes, something with something else, yes and when you do it, do it right. Lots of bacon! I have been eating a lot of grilled cheese with bacon sandwiches lately. Got a great deal on some fabulous bacon and haven't had grilled cheese for a long time. Tonight I had turkey & swiss on lightly buttered multigrain toast with some mac salad and cole slaw. Refreshing on this warm, humid day....See MoreIs yours made yet?
Comments (21)I make mine daily, right before I take a shower. I set out clean clothes, do a quick pick-up in the room, open the window in season, and make the bed. Making the bed is a bit more of a "chore" since Harry sleeps with us. I keep a king-size sheet spread over the made up bed. It supposedly keeps him off our covers. Since he's shedding this time of year I have to take his sheet outside and shake it well. Then I take the other sheets off and shake them, too. We are all hot natured so we don't use blankets in the summer. So I strip, shake, and remake the bedding everyday. Heavy sign; he's worth it. The Hairy Harry Dog will not go to bed at night unless the bed is made, with his sheet neatly in place. He's learned over the years to not get on the bed without his sheet (he has four so I can wash them every couple of days) in place. Years ago I noticed that just pulling the bed up doesn't work for him. He is a special, royal, Prince and the Pea character and must have the bed made nicely. In the winter he wants his own little pillow and top cover, too. And sometimes he just sleeps in Papa's lap. This was taken about five years ago, before Harry became a Greybeard and Silverback!...See MoreAnyone have their grow lists for 2017 yet?
Comments (9)One more now on this year's grow list. A bean variety I have been searching for a long time arrived in the mail yesterday. "Bob and Mary" a pole bean grown in British Columbia at the beginning of the 20th century. The only source I knew for this one 'The Heritage Seed Library'. With the help of Russ Crow he knew someone who had these in the UK and was willing to share a few with me. After some inquiring I found the bean seed had been mailed before Christmas so thought they must have been lost in the mail. Mailed November 26th. 2016, they arrived yesterday March 21st. just a few days short of 4 months, this puts a new meaning to snail mail. Thank you, Galina, you really made my day yesterday :). It is said the pods of this endangered heirloom can be eaten juicy and young, or tender and mature, hopefully I'll have a few seeds to share in the fall, help in a small way get this one back in circulation. I have a lead on the other one I was looking for "Sarah's Old Fashioned Black" grown on Vancouver Island, hopefully I'll have a few of these in the fall. I'm a great believer in paying it forward and it looks like I'm not the only one :). Still haven't finalized my list yet, probably not until they're all in the ground, someone needs to light a fire under me LOL. Annette...See Morehabjolokia z 6b/7
