Washers & Dryers that aren't too deep

Our =small= laundry room was built for washers and dryers that are 27" wide and 27" deep. The dryer got nuked by a power surge a couple days ago. Sigh. And we're in the market for replacement. Unfortunately, the standard now for modern front loaders seems to be either 30" deep or 33" deep. We really don't have the extra few inches.
Anybody know of a washer/dryer pair that's only 27" deep, without having to go to the extreme of using one of those "apartment" above/below units?

27" does that include the vent? If so it will eliminate most models

the compact electrolux is 33.5"hx24"wx24"d and requires 0" clearance but that extra 1.5" would make it easier to get in and out. I have the washer and really like it. I have the GE compact vented dryer. I almost bought the electrolux dryer but it was not available so I went with GE. The Electrolux dryer is a new type of dryer so I would read up on how they work. People who have them seem to like them.

Needs to be 27" -not- including the vent. I will check out the Electrolux. Kinda small works better than completely-too-big, at least, when it comes to geometry. Thank you.

Yes, the units definitely got deeper in the recent years. The customers expect more capacity and that's what manufacturers compete on. If they are not increasing the width of the units, they must increase the depth to accommodate larger drums. You are not likely to find a front loading washer and dryer set that can fit that space (I think the Fridgidare/Kenmore ones made 10-15 years ago would have fit, but I don't know if anyone makes them in that size any more). In my experience you need at least 34-35" depth for closet installation. And that would be with one of those flat rectangular vents that save on space. With a regular vent you need significantly more depth in your closet. I don't know anything about the sizing of the combo units (top loader on the bottom and a slanted dryer on top, all in one unit) so I can't help with that.

Gabby--we have the exact same set up--a narrow room that is the entry from our garage. We recently remodeled the laundry room, a project that included new washer & dryer, new cabinets, new laundry sink and paint. We replace old cabinets that were cheap laminate "garage "cabinets with some nicer regular kitchen cabinets. The problem with the new cabinets is that they are shallower-- 12" instead of 15" like the old cabinets. We have noticed that it's hard to reach items on the 2nd shelf,and impossible to reach the 3rd shelf. Our solution was to buy a folding step stool that slides right in next to the dryer. Our new set (LG front load) measures 33" from the wall to the front of the washer & dryer--so it's quite a lean over to access the cabinets. My final opinion: They're pretty, but not very practical. I'd recommend going with deeper wall cabinets, if you can find some you like! We also had an issue with the old washer hook ups being higher that our new washer--so it was unsightly. My husband made me a "ledge" type shelf that hides the old hook up, and it's also handy for keeping laundry powder easily accessible. Fabric softener sheets are kept in the small square basket. Whatever you do malvaflores, do not change the hoses. Flexible steel hoses are so much stronger and last longer than the standard rubber hoses. I once had a rubber hose burst when I was away from the house and it flooded my first floor. It made me a believer and I have replaced countless sets for family and friends. Fordtech makes an excellent point that if your walls were thick enough you could have the receptacle boxes set within. This is something that a custom build could probably accommodate if someone thought of it.

I have the 2011 WFW97HEX and love it. The closest to that machine is the current Maytag MHW8200. This model is the last in the Whirlpool family that still offered an Allergene cycle. I prefer Whirlpool or Maytag products due to additional flexibility with steam option (means making sure water is heated). I haven't had any mold issues. I do only Santize, Allergene, Whites and warm water washes and no cold water at all. With cycles where the heater is energized, I always use the heaviest soil level to make sure heater has time to keep water nice & hot or warm. I also only use powder detergents, liquids are not found at my house, nor or pods. I live in a small town and knew a Whirlpool product would be easier to provide service and parts availability than any of theother brands. I've had no issues with my washer.

My Speed Queen stack comes in at 28" which is the most shallow I know. I do like it, but wish it had a water heater. It is compact, but has great capacity. If you could recess a dryer vent box, it might work. It is, however, pricey. Nothing remotely like the regular GE and Maytag laundry centers. But it cannot be unstacked.

Miele is small and would work. They are like 24" deep, 23.5" wide and about 33" tall. They can be either stacked or side by side. My "new set" I have had since 2013, on the main floor.

my used (2003?)set I have down in the basement. got these from an appliance repair shop in Chicago suburbs. Working great:

Yes, I would definitely check out craigslist for the high-end compact appliances. A lot of people buy them and then decide they want something else and sell them for about half of what you would pay if you bought them new.
