Comments (10)Glad you all liked the pics! Radar, I just find pots at the local stores.....whatever they happen to have. Yes, I have ernesti-ruschii that I am growing from seed I got about 18 months ago.....very tiny bulbs!! Josh, one of the reasons I like these are the amazing bulbs...as I say, they are really architectural in nature....more impressive than the flowers for the most part, which are far too short-lived. Since mine are potted in pure pumice or volcanic cinder or river rock they would have to be pretty tough to pull themselves in to the pot any deeper. Alana, as you may recall from your days in Organic Chem. many natural products are modified for clinical benefit. Since these bulbs are used for their poison they produce by indigenous people in South Africa and Namibia these toxins were isolated and it turns out that they are useful in treating cancer. The guy writing the textbook wanted a pic of the plant for illustration purposes as he talked about the medicinal chemistry efforts to make better anti-cancer compounds.....who knew :o) Dan...See MoreHello folks. Comments (19)Hey Josh! Feeling a bit better today? I hope so. I have been worried about you:-) Tmc, there are a few ways to rid scale once and for good. Some with horticultural oils, others with alchohol, and yet others systemically. Of course I am an all natural person as much as I can be until there is nothing else that will work. To treat and rid scale effectively, it would be nice to first identitfy the species. Knowing the type of scale you have can be very effective since there are hundeds of different types. Is it possible to see a pic since some are not hindered by alchohol or oil treatments. Some do carry their eggs while others lay their eggs under their protective scale covers. Is it possible to get a picture, so one of our pest experts like 'Rhizo' can properly identify and we can go from there? If it is cottony cushion scale, it can be treated effectively with alchohol, this pest usually being the culprit in the past in my case. Make sure you mist every nook and cranny and repeat application after a couple of days. Please give us a pic if you could? Mike...See Morecouple of pics from this week
Comments (42)I was just thinking after looking at your last post that 'the bench photos' would keep unruly(s) from visiting the house therefore giving a quiet atmosphere to enjoy to ones' self. Now I realize that all my friends would congregate, to my house. Enough said? I think so. Dax...See MoreFred Biasella
