Miscellanous Hippeastrums 2nd set of 2011
Comments (29)Well observed! The MATURED flowers, of many Hippeastrums even, create the impression of the "seamless" and "completely rounded" CALIX or PLATE and I am inclined to baptize this seedling Amarena BALLS (again, and in remembrance of a sibling of Minerva x Picotee respectively) that had been nicely veined on white, rounded segments) but lacked the red edge DESPITE parentage of "Picotee". I shall definitely try to obtain seeds of "PapMinPic through self pollination. On ther other hand, the star-shaped Melusine x PapDon2 seedlings (a second is comming soon and reveals itself in the background respectively *g*) are in my opinion dead end hybrids, because their beauty is very "formal". Their color is very good though, rather blueish....See MoreAmaryllis season is in front of the door and
Comments (38)Frank, Your aulicums are beautiful!! I didn't have good luck with mine, I definitely did something wrong, but I will try again another year. If your old pollen was frozen, you should have fairly good luck using it; I have and have had good results. Actually, I'm using some now and some swelling is occurring so I am hopeful. I'm using Cyber Space and my not Kahlua which was a lovely spidery flower on Exotic Star. I plan to use more as I have a new papilio that will be blooming with 4 flowers in a few weeks.!!...See More"Exotic Star" x H.papilio
Comments (36)The second scape... together with the two fully mature flowers of the first scape, one floret self-pollinated, the other pollinated from "PapDon2". Btw, self pollination of one floret of the first-blooming sibling was not successful, which was to be expected in a DIPloid, but the ovary of the other, after pollination from "Charisma" (TET) is swelling'! ------------------------------------------------------------ Here...See MoreA nice surprise
Comments (52)Here is Giraffe, blooming on a short stem (Jody your looks like it's on a short stem too, is it?). This was over by the cat box (hubby's duty) and partially covered by the leaves so I just noticed it! There are two other scape emerging from this pot from different small bulbs, hope these do better. Not too proud of this one.... I've also got a bloom on a huge Opal Star barely making it out of the bulb I guess I'm doing something they don't like but I haven't got the room to baby any of these!!...See Morehaweha
