Finally redecorating DD's room - how to stay motivated?!
Comments (16)What a good mommy you are! The new bedroom sounds dreamy enough for any little princess. How to stay motivated? It helps me to have some excitement about the final outcome. Do you have any inspiration pics to put up on the fridge to keep your spirits up and your motor running? There are a number of them in the Gallery in the post on kids rooms. There are also some in the bedrooms post, and even more in the Cottage Decor post. Close this thread and you'll find a link to the Gallery at the bottom of the page that lists all the threads. Also another link at the top right just above the list of posts. I second Dian's brilliant suggestion about audio books. I get audio book CDs from the library and listen to them in the kitchen, or wherever I have mindless work to do. I love them. I'll bet if you snoop the web you can order a ready-made slipcover for that chair for not too much money. You might start with eBay and amazon.com. On the sewing, all you're talking about is sewing straight lines. That isn't difficult. Seems to me you must have a gf who would be happy to come over and supervise you until your "rust" is off. That would be a lot less daunting than a class, to me at least. Your mom or mom-in-law might like to help. When our kids are grown and gone, we suddenly feel unwanted, useless. We are thrilled if we're asked to help. We feel valued, and if we're retired we have the time. Well, most of us, anyway. If yours don't live close they could at least sew a pillow or something. Just a thought that could improve family relations and lighten your load. Make a family party out of it. You supply the steaks, hot dogs, the barbee, and the paint, and invite them all. They can bring salad, dessert, etc, and extra paint brushes or whatever. I'm looking forward to helping with my granddaughter's bedroom makeover somewhere in the next few months. I'm really excited about it and I'm collecting ideas. One idea I ran across is these giant tissue paper flowers. They would be so darling hung from a little girl's ceiling. Do you like those? This URL shows you how to make them -- very easily and cheaply. It would be a good project to do with kids, depending on the age of the child. Comments (8)The issue is scale. You can certainly have another pattern in the space as long as it is smaller than the rug pattern (not hard, LOL) and has at least some of the same colors. This would work (in the linen/black combo): ingrid comforter This would be nice: galleria comforter This, tho it looks white, is described as ivory: tessa Instead of replacing the comforter, you could also find fabric you like and make a duvet cover. You can use two sheets, or just fabric. That opens up more possibilities. Just look for fabric that has the colors you need in a different scale pattern. Something like this would work: cartwheel spring tuxedo A larger scale polka-dot would be fun, too. An animal print could work as well. There is this one, which might be a bit of a stretch, but I like how it could bring in some lime or pink to break up all the dark colors: galaxy black...See MoreI need help picking a pink for my 10 dd's room, Please
Comments (10)kmcg85- Love that pink! It definately has that cheerful look about it. But I'm not sure it will match with the pink in the comforter. I took my comforter to SW and the interior designer there matched the other colors with it, because I am not good at choosing colors. busybee3- Ice plant looked alittle on the purplish side with the comforter. The window treatments are the same ones that come with the comforter set, valance and Black and white polka dot drapes. I'm planning on doing alot of black and white polka dot accessories. lori111- Thanks! If it was up to me I would do soft white walls, but dd REALLY wants pink walls!...See Moreplease help with furniture arrangement for DD's room (pics)
Comments (24)thank you for all the input. It's probably difficult to visualize the room w/o the floor plan so I'm posting the floor plan below. Her room is bedroom 3. Though the room is large by measurement, the closet & entry took up a lot of space so actually workable space is maybe about 12x11 or so. I wish I can have just a bit more space, so I can put the bed parallel to the window (foot board toward the closet) and dresser/desk on each side- that would be ideal. Her bed is a full size (60x84). It would be much easier if it's a twin. I think wellspring made a very good point a/b how children utilize space. When she was younger she wants her bed in the corner because she was afraid of falling off the bed. Also, having bed in corner freeing up the center space & at that age they do a lot of floor play. Now she's a bit older, there is less floor play & more artwork/craft -- she use her desk a lot more. DD really likes her bed in the middle of the room (we test-drove the arrangement last week) so I suppose we'll make her happy and have it there. Maybe in couple years she would change her mind & want something different. gotabeme: thanks for the photoshop. It really helps me seeing how cramped up that corner would be w/ a bedcrown. Leahcate: the bookcase has little bun feet so I can't turn it on the side. punamytsike: If I have her bed w/ footboard facing window, there won't be enough room for desk under the window. Thanks again for all the advices! I'm sure I'll be back soon with more design dilemmas....See Morek9arlene
