Q. about Miele 4840 Washer?
Comments (34)Gordonr I am not comparing the W4840 with the 1215. I am comparing the 1215 6K 220V with the 3XXX 5.5k 110V. I posted a question in the Wiring Forum about the difference between 120V and 220V and why NA uses 120V and the rest of the world does not. A lot of technical discussion over there but here is the easiest answer to one of my questions: "Is 220V really more efficient than 120V?" "Yes. Given a certain amount of energy needed in watts, the higher the voltage, the lower the percentage voltage drop and the less the energy loss over the same size wire. That's why the power company can supply a whole neighborhood with two relatively small wires at 7200 volts (or more). The high voltage is potentially more dangerous, though, so it is transformed to a lower voltage for consumer use. It's amperage that determines the wire sizes needed and a 120V system has to transmit almost twice the current (amperage) as a 220v system delivering the same amount of energy (watts). Because ampacity-to-wiresize is basically a square function, the wire has to be roughly four times as large. Otherwise, severe voltage drop will occur over any appreciable distance and more energy will be lost to heat generation due to resistance."...See MoreMinimum depth for Miele washer & Dryer under counter with cabinet door
Comments (12)garyboun - I actually accomplished what I wanted and I love it. My washer /dryer are underneath my cabinets with pocket doors that open and slide back in. It required wider cabinets but I love that they are hidden when not in use. Since I used pocket doors, I had to go wider so each appliance has double pocket doors. Because the dryer is not vented it's important to keep doors open when using. It's great during the winter because it heats the room up. Let me clean up the laundry room a bit and I'll show you pics. In order to accomplish the planning of my cabinets, I did find a washer/dryer in a showroom and took pictures so that I could plan where to put my plugs and drain hoses. I have those pics as well if you want them. The only thing that is a bit tricky is that the detergent fill-bin is located at the top, so you will need to be careful about your countertop overhang. My total depth of the cabinets with the w/d is 27" including countertop. Cabinet depth is 26 1/2" so very minimal overhang. There's definitely room in the back for it to go back further but I wanted to play it safe. At minimum I think the cabinet depth would need to be 25" with doors that overlay on top versus inset. As far as leaving door open to dry out, it's also necessary to wipe down the rubber flange of excess water so mold doesn't set in. But I typically leave door open when I'm done with laundry on both w/d for a bit before closing them up for the day. These are in my back door entry so it's really nice to shut them away. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. Let me know if you have any questions and I will see if I can upload pictures tomorrow....See MoreRotary Iron, Mangle anyone?
Comments (33)THANKS homepro for your support. I see the plug, thanks for linking. I looked at my dryer plug and it is huge, but similar in integrated style as the one you posted. My dryer plug has 4 prongs, so is different. The posting for the Miele in Minnisota, is too vague for me, and along with your information, I am going to pass. I don't like the fact that the dial is dirty. If a seller doesn't spiffy up an item, it sends red flags-a-wave'n. I think that has bothered me the most with this listing. There is a pro model down by St. Louis, but that is tooooo far away, and he/she hasn't returned 2 emails I've sent. This morning I've been milling around the house trying to figure out where I would keep an Ironrite. I live in a small house that is fully furnished. In the spare/guest bedroom, I can move my treadle sewing machine away from one area to another and place the Iron right in the spot, allowing full functioning of both. But it does fill up the room a bit. I don't want to put it in the basement. I found the best video! This is the style of the Ironrite that I am looking at, but the one I'm looking at is in really nice condition (new cord too) Enjoy. Comments (34)@scottie mom re: NYC water softness. Not sure if this setting is changeable on the 060 but will check. Thank you! The shaking happens not at the high speeds but as the wash is slopping around at the lower speed. It doesn't last but the first time it happened, a slim bottle of detergent on the top of the dryer tipped over. The installer did not adjust the legs nor was I confident that he attached the stacking kit securely. But he used a level and said it was level and didn't need adjusting. When you say "just a bit," it's vibration you can definitely see and feel, right?...See Morejwvideo
