Best door mat for wet, muddy feet (human or dog!)
Comments (2)Vermont Country Store used to sell a "mud rug", essentially very tight black and white cotton loops. It was great! Put one by front door, it literally sucked all water, snow, mud off your shoes/boots. It finally wore out. I haven't seen it in their catalog recently. Trapping dirt and water before they can enter the rest of your house is definitely the way to go....See MoreLooking for attractive, hard working entrance mat
Comments (15)I have a waterhog mat, a cat, and 2 dogs. I haven't noticed a problem with dog hair. We have a central vac and only have the bare floor brush since we have mostly hardwood floors. It takes a few passes over the mat to get all the dirt but it all comes up fine. It would probably be easier if I had a vacuum with an actual beater bar for lifting dirt. It seems like because of way the mat is grooved, most of the hair and superficial dirt stays on top and is easy to vacuum. Occasionally a piece of mulch or a rock will work its way down into the groove and then usually I have to pick it out by hand as it doesn't vacuum easily....See MoreWaterhog mats - worth the $$?
Comments (29)I just bought two herring-bone mats and two larger everyspace mats. I do realize I will be able to see the dog hair but our three dogs are in and out of the doggy door chasing squirrels all day and bring in a lot of dirt after digging but I do love the pups very much. Hopefully this will help control the dirt they bring into the house but it's nice to read the comment about placing a mat underneath it to keep it in place. I'll get back to you and let you know how they work. I'm still waiting on two which will arrive tomorrow. I bought them in sage and they are nice looking....See MoreFloor Mat
Comments (10)Maddie, I believe that, in many ways, laminate is easy care. However, like all flooring there are some things you have to be aware of. Laminate can definitely be damaged by water remaining in contact with it. I think the lower quality can be damaged if the water isn't immediately dried off the floor, others can withstand water for a short time, while water resistant laminate claims that it can withstand a longer period of time before damage occurs. I say "claims" because it is fairly new and untested. We went ahead with the water resistant to try to make it as worry-free as possible. Ida, Thanks for the information about Waterhog mats. Does your door clear the mat okay? Is it on hardwood or laminate? The following is one of the links I found advising against using rubber backed rugs on laminate flooring. LINK: Rubber Backed Mats on Laminate Floors I've also read links that say rubber backed rugs are not intrinsically harmful to a laminate floor but can be harmful if the rubber tends to stick to the floor. Then other sites (e.g., Armstrong Floor Blog) state that the only rug that should not be used are those with abrasive backings and recommend rubber backing, among other acceptable soft backings for rugs. Google can be so helpful, but also so contradictory....See More
