Any suggestion for water-hogs roses?
Comments (12)On the subject of roses and wet ground: when the roses are dormant, and when the water is passing through, not stagnant, they can take quite amazing amounts of water. A couple of years ago in an extremely wet winter some of our roses in the shade garden were flooded for months on end. They were fine, no damage whatever, not to mention that they appreciated the several inches of cow manure carried down from the cattle enclosure uphill. Roses that get flooded while in growth or that are in a wet area where the water comes and stays are a different story, though my sister, a garden designer and lifelong gardener, says she's never seen a rose suffer from excessive wet. I've never had the problem of excessive water in my garden, rather the opposite problem of finding roses that can handle months of drought every summer. This year has been awful, and amidst all the dead and dying plants--we're still in our summer drought--the roses are just about the cheerfullest shrubs in the garden. I mostly have old varieties, and they really can handle a lot of heat and drought. Melissa...See MoreVibration mats - Kellett? Diversitech? cow stall mat? What works
Comments (13)We recently got the Kellet pads for our Bosch 2005 Premium washer, and they have made all of the difference in the world. Our w/d are situated in a first floor laundry alcove over a crawlspace and we had reenforced the lineoleum-covered hardwood with 3/4 inch plywood, and used spin levels no higher than 900, tilted the machine slightly backwards and releveled each leg, never filled the machine more than 3/4 full, and, shaking our heads, followed Bosch's advice after 5 service visits for vibration and actually used double-sided tape (I still can't believe that this was their solution...) Nothing markedly reduced the vibration and once a year, we landed up having to undo the slow walking that machine had done to get cozy with the dryer. I figured the investment of under $30 would be worth it for a try, and it definitely was. My service guy came out to see how they worked and didn't charge for installing them himself, and his company now is going to keep some in stock and recommend them for FL machines. The comment one poster made above seemingly outrageous shipping costs makes little sense to me- at Kellet's recommendation, I used UPS ground for about $8 (less than the price of gas if I were to be able to find them somewhere locally) and they arrived well within 48 hours of my pleasant phone call to them. They are a family-run company with exceptional customer service and I recommend them highly....See MoreWaterhog rug?
Comments (13)One last question for you all... Would you suggest it to cover a good part of our entryway? I'm looking at a 3'9 x 5'1. I would place it oblong towards our lockers. It's 6' from the locker edge to the door edge. Otherwise a 3'9 x 4'1 is the next size down...I would place it the other way...just inside the door...leaving the locker area clear as well as entry into the laundry room...so it would be a 'just inside the doorway' rug. Does that make sense?...See MorePlease help...what color Waterhog mat for Tigerwood Flooring
Comments (8)I'd match the floor as closely as possible, and as stated above Terra Cotta seems to do just that. I have one Waterhog at my front (entry) door and love it. Sometimes little particles do get trapped in its waffle-ish design, but I'd rather have them trapped there than tracked through my house. What the regular vacuum doesn't suck up is remedied with the hose to the hand-held vac that I use for the carpeted stairs at the entry. I want to replace my other two Target-bought mats with Waterhogs....See Morealgeasea
