Can anyone help me ID this rose? Old rose on old homesite.
Comments (17)Your rose looks similar to a rose in the Sacramento Cemetery, our found rose, "Dr Peck's 12th Avenue Smoothie" is thornless, once blooming. Very fragrant. This found rose is thought to be the same as the Charles Lawson in commerce. Below is a link to a photo I took in the cemetery a few years ago. I liked this rose so much that I propagated it and planted it in my yard even though it is a once bloomer. It is quite vigorous and now takes up the back corner along the fence. Here is a link that might be useful: Dr Peck's 12th Ave Smoothie/Charles Lawson...See MorePlease help ID purple striped moss rose
Comments (7)After having spent HOURS poring through photos & descriptions, etc., the closest match I've run across so far is 'Robert le Diable.' Yeah, I know, forget what I said about this rose's possibly being a moss or a gallica! Do any of you grow 'Robert le Diable'? GST's description seems to fit: he calls it "lax, almost procumbent" and says that it is an atypical centifolia [hey, doesn't centifolia mean "one hundred petals"? That would fit the 148 petal count that I got!] that "probably has Gallica derivation." He also says that 'Robert le Diable' has "an amazing number of tints" in its flowers, and "develops its most arresting colours in dry, hot weather." (YEAH! That's Boise!) So, what do you think? Anybody?...See MoreAny guesses on how old this sideboard might be?
Comments (15)Not formal dining room furniture there wasn't where buffets and sideboards were concerned, or it wasn't at all typical of that era. You might find a smaller 'server' buffet but this one seems to be deeper than most I've seen listings for. That's why I'm interested in dimension. You might find daintiness in odd pieces, washstands, commodes and there I agree. That's one reason I asked what it looked like inside the doors. Yes, I'm quite aware old finishes can darken with age, and I'm not arguing that this piece hasn't been refinished. It likely has. Yes again, inside chests and drawers the wood does not darken like it does on the backs because it isn't subject to dust and pollutants so common in the days of manufactured house gas, coal and wood burning furnaces and fireplaces. I have yet to see a very light back to any piece of old furniture and I have seen plenty. They get cruddy even in the most elegant homes. This is a nice little piece but it's no Limbert or Roycroft. The inexpensive metal details sort of suggest it's more common. It's little more than stamped tin. I'd also be curious to know if a caster was ever mounted under the legs. If there wasn't, I'd suspect it was made when they started to be phased out in furniture. That being said, it's a most pleasant piece and I certainly wouldn't mind having it sitting in my house....See MoreNew house, old roses-part 2. White rose ID
Comments (19)I agree that it is probably FKD. If you look at the pictures of that rose on HMF, it shows several with pink streaks on the buds, and also blooms appearing more double than 36 petals, and also clusters of blooms. In addition, there is one showing buds which look identical to those posted by allencia. Jackie...See Moreportlandmysteryrose
