4 Ton vs 5 Ton; 2 stage vs 1 stage condenser
Comments (53)The furnace model number with the XR16 is an XC80. Very similar to the XV80 but communicating. Must be a mistake. TCONT803 is a fine thermostat to use with the XR16 air conditioner and furnace. Overall, I do not agree with the equipment matchups proposed with the furnaces and air conditioners. Oversized furnace on both systems, and oversized coil to achieve marginal efficiency gains on the XR16 system. I realize you may not understand all the implications of oversized equipment, but it is a big deal for comfort, efficiency and reliability. All things considered I still recommend the heat pump system. This post was edited by ryanhughes on Wed, Apr 24, 13 at 13:54...See Moreamana 14 seer 3.5 ton or trane 15 seer 4 ton???
Comments (22)I am just being forced to buy a new a/c heat pump unit. My 1988 Carrier unit is finally decided to no longer produce cold air as the condenser is failing. I am replacing it with a 2 ton 15 seer Trane unit with a 2 ton air handler. My house is under 900 square foot and I have 6 windows and one set of french doors. The final cost for replacing the old unit and air handler with a new pad, duct work and a digital control is $4700. There is a tax rebate and since my new unit falls under $5000 I will get $1411 of a possible $1500 rebate. And our local electric company here in Lakeland, Florida will issue a $250 credit on my electric bill. posted date 5/15/2009...See More13 seer single stage vs 15 seer 2-stage?
Comments (1)If your not replacing your indoor unit, getting the 2-stage outdoor unit won't provide any savings since the furnace won't be able to switch to lower fan speed for the lower of the 2 stages of the outdoor unit. I would go with the 14/15 seer single stage outdoor unit with new coil with txv if your not replacing indoor unit. Your new a/c will be a heatpump right? Comments (6)You are not going to see much difference in the operating costs with a difference of one point increase in SEER rating. It is highly unlikely you will ever see a return on investment on the extra $850. Post the model numbers of the two systems. This will help determine it the extra money is buying a better system in order to justify the extra money. Be aware most builders make a lot of extra profit by over charging on upgrades....See MoreAustin Air Companie
