What have I done? My garden is dying
Comments (5)We applied about a 2 inch layer to the entire plot then worked the soil for several days with disc and tillers. This was done the middle of April. The litter had been out of the houses on a pile for several months before we applied the litter to the garden. Keep in mind the litter came from brooder houses and is approx 80% wood shavings. Thank you for the help. I am adding results from a litter sample. The format is a little off maybe it will help. SAMPLE NO. 01 MANURE: TURKEY STORAGE: UNSPECIFIED -----------------RESULTS REPORTED ON AN AS-SAMPLED BASIS---------------------- lbs/ton Ammonium Nitrogen 0.54 % 10.80 Organic Nitrogen 2.86 % 57.12 --------------------------------------------------------------- INCORPORATED AVAILABLE NITROGEN ESTIMATE 42.91 SURFACE AVAILABLE NITROGEN ESTIMATE 39.67 --------------------------------------------------------------- Phosphorus as P2O5 2.24 % 44.88 Potassium as K2O 2.09 % 41.82 Calcium 1.50 % 30.10 Magnesium 0.34 % 6.79 Sulfur 0.44 % 8.71 Zinc 368.23 ppm 0.74 Copper 162.66 ppm 0.33 Manganese 359.26 ppm 0.72 Sodium 1782.86 ppm 3.57 Moisture 35.96 % ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ INCORPORATED PLANT AVAILABLE NITROGEN ESTIMATE - 80% of ammonium-N, 60% of organic-N, and 100% of nitrate-N (if determined). Assumes the manure will be incorporated into the soil within hours of application. Assumes some loss of ammonium-N during application and prior to incorporation. SURFACE PLANT AVAILABLE NITROGEN ESTIMATE - 50% of ammonium-N, 60% of organic-N, and 100% of nitrate-N (if determined). Assumes the manure will be left on the surface of the soil with no incorporation by plowing or irrigation. Available nitrogen calculations are estimates and if nitrate-N was not re- quested the amount of available nitrogen may be slightly more than reported. Also, the actual amount may be more or less than the estimate depending on the composition of the manure, soil type, and environmental conditions. All of the potash in the animal waste should be plant available in the first year of application. Although not all of the phosphorous is available in the first year, its availability should be comparable to that in commercial fertilizers. The rate of animal waste to apply for crop production is dependent on the nutrient content of the waste, method of application and incorporation, soil test, crop to be grown, and previous manure applications. In most cases, the plant available nitrogen content of the waste is used to determine the rate of application. Comments (72)Oh my god!!! same as we had. we had three neighbors one an ex-cop and their 11 year of daughter all watched as Alex and his buddy carried off my Travertine 19 pieces of pool coping. Gary and his son Tom called me a liar and told other customers I was a crazy Anaheim hills lady making wild accusations. They covered it up, but eventually had to admit and replace the travertine. 6 months of stress and aggravation and tears, but eventually the pain stopped and they left. It didn't need to be this way. We put cameras in after that! The cement guy did not use rebar and everything cracked within days everywhere...they also tried not to put the drains in around the pool. Check their work...the drains have to be connected...mine were not....we pulled up chairs and sat down and made them redo the drains. They still missed one. I am so sorry that you are going through this too. They took all the joy out of my pool for me. Don't use their pool start up guy Fred. Pick your own. He charged me $375 to pour two bottles of muradic acid into my pool. Apparently that is start up. Do it yourself....See MoreHelp!!! Methley plum loosing it's leaves!
Comments (8)Lack of drainage is one of the biggest problems with growing stone fruits along the coastal area. I plant all my peaches and plums in raised beds. If you dig a trench to drain the surface water it will help. But if the soil stays saturated for long periods of time, the roots cannot get oxygen and will rot. That is true even in winter....See MoreDying plum tree... Please help :(
Comments (7)The tree still looks pretty good. I would not prune it until late winter. It is dropping fruit because it can not support them or they may have been infected with plum curculio. Make sure and dispose of the fallen fruit, since they can cause a bigger infestation. You may need a second plum tree for pollination if there is not another plum tree close by. I would not spray with neem oil while in leaf stage since that could cause some leaves to fall off if it is put on too thick. I do not spray anything on my plums except a fungicide to control brown rot and for plum curculio is they are a problem. I do spray a dormant oil and copper in the dormant season....See Moretlbean2004
