Help, Oh, Please Help! - Backsplash Installation. (pics)
Comments (11)This is a situation I hate. Short of moving the switches (which isn't always possible), there's no real winning solution. I even talked a friend of mine this summer (who just happens to be an electrical contractor) out any backsplash at all, other than the 4" one that came with his countertop, just because of this, and he said those switches couldn't be moved, because of the way the framing fell, without opening up about 20" of the wall and redoing the framing. If it were up to me, and I had no choice but to deal with it, I'd tile that little space from the side of the cabinet to the door trim....See MoreExperts Help!! Don't like part of my new backsplash!!
Comments (21)They are making templates for my granite now. My layout is very similar to yours. And I was going to have tile sandwiched between the two strips of granite. However, I'd have even more contrast than you do. I was doing white subway and my granite will be honed black. I am totally thinking I don't want to do that now. But, back to you. I like the granite sandwiched between your granite counters better than the tiles. I think adding accents by taking out tiles and replacing them might make that area too busy. I think that if you use granite in that area, it would all look like one piece that is meant to go together....See MoreDo I Need BackSplash? Help with Suggestions!
Comments (27)Posted by budgeteer_s (My Page) on Wed, Dec 31, 08 at 18:18 Thanks for all your suggestions. I wanted so much to follow with ci_lantro's suggestion because then I'm done. I'll gladly let you snatch that paint brush out of my hand. ha ha. But at the same time if a little tiling will tie up the project, then I'm game. jodi_socal: I'm a little disappointed when you said fire and ice won't work. I just LOVE that F&I BS. But then agin, I think I know all along it's a little too much for my kitchen. Caryscott & petra: Thanks for the picture petra, it says a thousand words. Is spectralight glass tiles? Prices are pretty reasonable. What about that milk green color? will it work? maybe with some garnet pieces sparingly mixed in. I will take some pictures and post two HD Behr's paint card to aid in the discussion of color. Thanks again ALL! Correction: My tiles were Alfagres: Gema4x4: different from what caryscott posted: I loved what caryscott linked:...See Morecalling all tile experts - ending backsplash w/ outlet in way
Comments (11)I have a very similar problem. I was really good at measuring the cabinet placement and had plans that in theory were perfect. All of a sudden things didn't quite fit the way they were supposed to....part of the problem being that the Craigs List cabs that I saw out of their boxes and brown butcher paper were perfect. I assumed those cabs that were still wrapped were the same. Nope. So we had to switch a few cabinets and in doing so a couple cabinets ended up being larger than the plan. Enter: Switchplates in places that tile shouldn't go. I think by the time we came to that part, I was soooo tired of the whole thing I said "Leave it! Don't worry about it! Who's gonna notice!?!" And honestly, nobody notices until I point it out to them. But again, honestly, now that it's all put together, it does bother me.... a LOT. I haven't been any help but just wanted you to know that there are so many of us out there who have run into the same situation....See Moresmm5525
