My tomato seedling leaves are curling and wilting! Please help!
Comments (8)Likely if you eat tomatoes from the store they are production tomatoes. 1. They won't have the taste like a good gardener hybrid or heirloom tomato (in other word they tastes like cardboard). 2. They are hybrid, when you replant a seed from a hybrid plant, it won't be exactly like the original plant, it will have different characteristic and may not taste as good or have desired traits. I would rather order some seeds online and grow some dwarf tomato instead. If you intend to grow indoor you will need some good lighting and space. Something like this is minimum I would recommend for full size tomato indoor: https://www.1000bulbs.com/product/8256/FC105-S50OD.htm. So as you can see, tomato need lots of light which isn't not going to work in a single room dorm. Not only that, they need lots of soil, at least a 5 gallon container. So it's better off growing something like lettuce or basil indoor, or look for a dwarf or microdwarf tomato variety. Some variety to consider are: Red Robin, Tiny Tim, Silvery Fire Tree. For indoor potting soil, make sure you ask question and find the right potting soil that does not smell and perhaps pasteurized for indoor use, otherwise it will be an unpleasant experience. I don't buy potting soil, but I know "FoxFarm's Potting Soil" have good reputation so you may want to check them out, but I don't know how it'll smell. In my bedrooom I have an "AeroGarden Extra LED" that let me grow vegetable hydroponically, and it's LED light is bright enough to provide light for some extra plants in smaller container next to it. It is full spectrum and would be adequate for small dwarf tomatoes. It have a timer and shuts off after 12-16 hours. It is also very easy to make your own affordable indoor hydroponic setup. However, considering you live in a dorm, I don't know if you may have issues with campus authority who will be concerned with cannabis growing which is quite popular with hydroponic growing (not that I'm trying to give an idea)....See MoreI really need some advice as to how to plumb in my dishwasher.
Comments (4)This might be better addressed by someone in the Plumbing forum at this website. You will likely have to provide much more information, such as a layout of the kitchen and of the fresh water and DWV piping under your kitchen. It is unclear whether hoses to a sink area are practical or allowed by the dishwasher (there is probably some limit) or you need to run plumbing to the dishwasher. And I would add that besides the usual approach to attaching the dishwasher drain hose to a garbage disposal, another scheme which can be quite quiet is to use a standpipe with trap (like for clothes washing machines) that the dishwasher hose connects to at the top. A slight tilt to the trap or carefully aimed hose orientation can ensure that the water runs down the pipe wall and doesn't splash into the trap water. (There is a requirement on standpipe height above the trap weir.) kas...See MoreMy succulents are suffering, I need some good advice on how to proceed
Comments (7)Hi, I see that many of your Crassulaceans (Sedums, Echeverias, etc.) are severely etiolated. Obviously they are in desperate need of increased light, but your setup seems sufficient. Do you know how potent your growing lamps are? How many hours per day they are on? How close they are to each plant? Knowing this would help because this seems to be a light issue over anything else. Do you have access to windowsills or the outdoors? All of my succulents are faced to western or southern windows (inside), and there have been no light problems (and I'm on the East Coast!). Also, you should not worry about overwatering-- it all depends on your soil mixture. Bonsai Jack (which you had mentioned) has a great gritty mix that was designed for succulents. It is good for beginners, as it is almost impossible to overwater while using it. Using your current setup, do NOT fertilize. Never fertilize when the plants are not getting sufficient sun, as they will grow more etiolated without proper light conditions. And in regards to the C. lehmanii, it is normal for it not to look instantly better overnight. I have many mesembs, and watering when they are severely wrinkled is a gradual process. They must have continual soakings (but let the pot air out before each one) to be restored back to turgidity....See MoreI need some advice on updates in my great room
Comments (137)I think the blue panels are way too high of a contrast in the room; would you consider softening the windows with a blue, white, beige geometric print, but with lined panels to add the darkness you requested for the room? ....another timeless look, is a bamboo styled room darkening or regular shades in the windows in a mid shade relates to the floor color?...See MoreSeedG (Zone 9b - 10b)
