Messed up counter top fixed. Whew.
Comments (32)You guys are all so nice (what would I do without GW through this past 2+ years?) and yes, DH is quite relieved both that he doesn't have to spend a day or two on the floor leveling cabs and also that he didn't royally mess it all up. Course, I told him he's not fired now and I think he was looking forward to some time off, haha, too bad baby! So, we have 3 more cabs to be installed this Wed. and the trim guy is coming this week also... I'm hoping to be able to post the reveal purty soon. The guy building the cabs is going in for surgery this Wed. so he'll be out of commission until May and I'm not sure he got the pantry door finished, so if not, I almost feel like I have to wait for that to be completed before the reveal, ugh.... he said he'd try so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he got to it today. But closer and closer!...See MoreIdeas as how to work around a 32" counter top in a 1930s kitchen
Comments (15)I bet the cabinets are built in place. Moving/removing might destroy them. You may end up saving the doors and having new boxes made. Then they can be any height you want. The sink will be a problem if you don't replace/raise the window, too. You need that sink for the feel of the kitchen if you want to keep the look of the cabs. It will probably cost the same to just buy new cabinets. But that doesn't solve the sink problem in the same foot print. And if you change the foot print then you've opened a new can of worms. Changing the window size would probably be the best thing to do....See MoreAnother where to line up cabinets tile and counter top question ...
Comments (7)Trying to remind myself that no matter what I do with that inch of tile or where the cabinets line up ... it'll be much better than this with the fridge, stove and dishwasher all opening into the same space, not enough space to stand by sink and dw, the edge of the range on a walkway (I have kids!), etc. Not having room for more than one person in the kitchen is a huge issue too. The dw doesn't empty into the disposal leading to food debris back up ... as well as tons of other tiny issues I hope we can get taken care of. This was the kitchen prior to our move-in as well ... now it is in worse shape from me taking my frustrations out on it, sometimes with hammers or sharp objects. If this look ever goes 'retro' I'll laugh my behind off....See MoreCounter tops-worth paying up for what you want instead of Settling?
Comments (23)You need a comprehensive design plan, and budget plan. A successful kitchen will live within those limits. It can't absorb 5 different budget busters, nor can it deal with 5 different ''must have because I'm in love'' elements. There are a lot of right choices for the different elements that neither bust the budget nor shout ''I'm the star''. Learn how to put together your kitchen with those, with your superstars then carefully selected to fit into those surroundings. That may or may not mean choosing a counter that you love, since you state that the range and venting were your ''must haves''. You can't have it all. Decide what are the musts, within the overall context. Not as each element as an individual. That is T-R-O-U-B-L-E. Remember that none of these pretty things will ever love you back. Some can perform better, and that is always worth considering as an ''upgrade'', but not if it blows the budget, or skews the other choices. For instance, a 14K refrigerator shouldn't even be on the table if that choice makes you consider skimping in another area, like not choosing a pro to correctly install your floors, or you decide to skip adding lighting. "Splurges'' should NEVER mean that another element gets shorted to below a reasonable standard....See MoreSue 430
