Advice on tongue and groove vs plank 2 1/4" solid wood flooring?

Hi All,

We are remodeling a 1927 house and are replacing all of the floors with 2 1/4" solid wood oak flooring. My contractor prefers the tongue and groove flooring option that would be sanded and finished in place. Whereas, I am leaning towards what was originally in the house, which was 2 1/4" planked oak that would be sanded and finished in place. Whichever option we select, the floor will be top nailed down to look like the original floors.

My contractor says that eventually the plank floor would have cracks. I assume that the tongue and groove would be more stable since it is thicker?

Is one superior over the other? What are other pros and cons for each?

I thank you in advance!
