Questions about Death in Pemberley (spoiler warning)

I am assuming that those who read this either already read the book, saw the series, or do not plan to do so.

I found the book dull and gave up reading very early on. I just finished watching the dramatization and now feel compelled to open a discussion. The dramatization was not at all dull, but it was quite dark, and took the characters in directions that surprised me

I thought the supporting characters were all well cast but was very disappointed with the actress who played Lizzie. While a skilled actress, she did not look anything at all like an Elizabeth Bennet in her later 20's, the apparent age. The character of Lizzie seemed repressed and insecure, and Darcy seemed cold. It looked to me like a marriage on the rocks for a good bit of the story. Near the end Darcy asks her to forgive him for his wrong in trying to suppress his feelings for her. Why did he do this? I did not observe any explanation. Was it explained better in the book? And poor Georgiana being pushed by her brother into a loveless marriage. Was that supposed to be part of Darcy's rejection of having originally married for love? A lot of the motives in this story just didn't make sense to me. I'd love to hear the thoughts of others.

I read the book but have not seen the series. I also found it dull and felt it focused far too much on Darcy and far too little on Lizzy. As I recall the book (and it's hazy), Lizzy was such a non-entity in the story that the state of their marriage was never even a question. I wish I could recall the book in more detail, but as I didn't enjoy it, I hardly remember it.

Is this the same book/TV play that over here is called Death Comes to Pemberley by P D James? I haven't read the book as I never enjoy these add-on/what-might-have-happened-next stories. I did watch the TV adaptation which didn't make much impact. As Rosefolly says the actress playing Elizabeth, Anna Maxwell-Martin, although very talented, is in her late thirties and probably too old for the part and seemed to have to stand at the top of a long staircase and shout far too often. The only other bits I can remember are scenes set in the woods and for the life of me I can't recall what anyone was doing there. Sorry not to be of more use!

I am unclear, is the plant actually planted in the sand or is it placed on top of the sand and actually planted in glass beads? Keep in mind as well this sounds like more of a floral arrangement than an actual permanent growing situation. Not everybody wants to grow their plants like we do. That's the whole point of the phal mass market, you can do anything you want with them when you treat them as temporary splashes of color like any flower bouquet. Hi All, I've bought from Aleya garden a few times would like to add my experience. I have enjoyed dealing with this guy and 'Shady' is the last word I'd use to describe him. I've ordered established rooted plants and unrooted cuttings and am extremely pleased with my purchases and the service I've received. All my shipments arrived in about 4 days (at very reasonable cost), were well packed, and communication was friendly and plentiful. I always put mine into intensive care when they arrive and have pretty good results. I've had 100% success with the cuttings, and about 90% with rooted plants. He replaced the 10% that died with cuttings too - I'm more than happy with that. Remember that the plants travel a long way and suffer a great deal of stress, so you need to take great care of them. My experience tells me that unrooted cuttings are the way to go - I know not everyone agrees with this, but it works for me! Finally, I also sell plants online as a hobby (within the EU) and this would be a great opportunity for me to shoot a potential competitor down, but I genuinely feel he's done a great job with me, and I am pleased I've taken the time to tell you all. I finally finished it-taking longer than I thought due to having a houseguest. It really was depressing and disturbing, but how can we here possibly relate to the lives of such people-and kids and how they deal with events that overwhelm them. Of course to me I find it hard to acept that Joel couldn't tell someone-anyone what was going on, that he couldn't feel he could trust anyone, but being so young how could he possibly understand how he was being used by the Blade. He did seem to have some recognition at the end of the 'why' which I think was all related to Vanessa and the original choice that she made which unfortunately had a backlash effect on the entire family. As for why Helen was killed, the seems to me to be obvious-because Lynley was investigating the murders of the boys-and since there was a strange relationship between Ivan & the Blade I think that maybe Ivan was the murderer and he has some sort of deal with Blade. Cal did make several attemps to warn Joel about Ivan and about Blade, but Joel was too young to understand what was going on and that he was being set up. I think Cal did the shooting because he knew Joel would not be able to and that Helen's murder was to distract everyone from investigating the serial killings.... Overall a sad hopeless story about a family that never seemed to stand a chance! Pat

It is called Death Comes to Pemberley here as well. I was trying to squeeze the spoiler warning into the allowed number of characters for a title, so I shortened it. In the end I shortened the spoiler warning but forgot to go back to correct the book title.

Rose, I have the DVD and watched it some time ago. I remember that there was a lot of criticism for the casting of Lizzie and that otherwise it was quite good.

I don't know if I read the book, my History of books borrowed since 2003 from the local library got wiped. It is so annoying as I cannot recall books I read or authors I enjoyed!
