There are several types and sizes of porcelains that are in the grey family that would look great!

My kitchen looks similar to the 2d pic (but smaller). I agree that wood warms the look of the white & is nicer to stand on, & looks much nicer since my downstairs is all wood throughout ...

A classic herringbone pattern using narrow travertine for example - classic with marble, practical and it will also pull in your grey island.

I've had wood in my kitchen for the past 16 years with absolutely no problem with water damage (even after the kitchen was flooded due to a bursting pipe somewhere under the sink). It still looks great even though things get spilled on it & I live at the beach... sand, my surfer son, etc.

We've had wood installed in the entire house, kitchen and powder room. The kids are older know, but they were under 5 when we had it installed. There is no damage. The floor looks like new even after 10 years

I only had one, so four under 5 ? Wow, you must be a very busy woman! I would ask for a recommendation for the hardiest wood. I'm sure others on here & flooring companies could recommend something. Dropcloths under their table / highchair until they're older? :). But, wood is definitely my choice.

4 kids under 5 would be another reason to get wood. Tile is much harder on a fall to the head... just sayin'

WHAT? is the flooring in adjacent areas? Uninterrupted flow is the goal.

I think neither of the inspiration pictures are wood. The first looks like LVT and the second one looks like laminate. I'm with Jan.

if you already have hardwood carry it in to the kitchen

I just had this conversation over the holidays with all of my relatives and every person who has wood, said, "wood" even the ones with kids and dogs and cats.

Every one of them had it in their kitchens and a few had it in their half - bathroom. (Meaning not one they were taking showers or baths in) Not one of them said, "Stay away from wood" That said something to me.

They all DID say, make sure it is prefinished hardwood. Harder wood is better. Engineered hard wood is a little better for moisture, but it can only be refinished once, versus the wood, which is a 100 year type flooring.

Hm interesting. I'm surprised so many people are fans of wood in the kitchen. I have it and I'm OK with it but I never feel like I can get it as clean as I want. I always feel like I'm having to hold back with strong cleaners with wood. Although I suppose the same could be said for natural stone.

We placed wood in the kitchen about 8 years ago in our previous home, would never do it again. my 3 kids weren't the problem but us adults. damage from falling utensils, lids, pans. Water damage by the sink and behind the fridge.

You do need to consider the adjacent floors also, and what will coordinate with those.

Another wood fan here. It held up beautifully in our old home so we added it again when we recently rebuilt. We had a 1, 3, and 5 year old when we bought the previous home... and I hope you'll understand the love behind my statement that those kids could wreck an anvil with a rubber mallet. lol

They're teens/preteens now and while they aren't destructive as often, we still get the occasional skateboard/drone/hockey puck incidents. I'm confident it'll hold up fine.
