Attic placement and access

In the last two houses I've lived in, the attic access is in one of the master bedroom (reach-in) closet attics. Which means, if you want to go into the attic, you have to remove some, or many, or most! items from the closet first. In this house there are two attics, but one of them is accessed from the laundry room. I'd rather that one be accessed from the adjoining garage, it would be better for storing out-of-season things like sleds, shovels, lights, hoses, or for inspecting.

I much prefer the attics that you can access from a hall or other space. And a Bessler stair is a must, none of this "which stepladder reaches and can fit into that tiny space, and where do we store the stepladder and how do we carry it up the stairs without banging the banister?" Especially when you are in a hurry to see if that latest storm damaged the roof, but you don't want to climb up on the roof because it's still storming.

Did you plan on attic access in your new build or addition?
