Kitchen Design Input Please
Comments (2)A "mock up" of the kitchen - the space closest to the front left is the dining area with a 6' dining table (4' from and perpendicular to island). I can post more pics if that would be helpful. Thanks!...See MoreNeed some design input for kitchen in new home
Comments (34)I like Holligator's plan...I really like corner pantries (I put one in our kitchen as well!). But, I would definitely move the ovens to the other side. To me, the west side seems crowded. It does make an excellent work area, but a little close--especially if you have someone cleaning up while you're prepping/cooking. If the ovens are moved then the cooktop could move south a foot or two to add some workspace/distance b/w the sink/DW and cooktop. The refrigerator side will still have plenty of landing space. I would still put a prep sink in the island, though, to increase the functional work area to include working on both sides of the island if needed or even on the refrigerator/oven side. One advantage of the island remaining is that it will help direct traffic away from the cooking side. W/the corner pantry & no island, people would probably cut diagonally across the kitchen and possibly infringe on the cooking zone--which could be a safety issue (in addition to an annoyance!). The combination of the end of peninsula opening and island will direct traffic to the east side of the kitchen b/w the DR and Breakfast area. I really like the shape of that peninsula!...See MoreSeeking Den Design Help — Starting From Scratch
Comments (6)Since the adjacent sunroom has that vibrant green I like your idea of introducing navy or cobalt in the den and kitchen. Those deep intense blues look great with lime green. I could easily imagine a den that features navy or cobalt as the main accent colour, with lime green making a very small appearance in a multi-colour toss pillow, a vase for the mantle, a fruit bowl in the kitchen, etc. It looks like you already have a rich blue shade on the floor of the sunroom (on my screen it looks slightly teal but I'm hoping that in real life it's closer to cobalt) so that would be a great choice. The rooms would be the same colours, but opposites!...See MoreInput required for kitchen design
Comments (22)The corner....it would better, function-wise, if you made the upper corner a 90-degree angle as well instead of the diagonal. An "easy reach" cabinet would accomplish that. Not only is an easy reach easier to use, but it also gives you more "face" space in the corner. This is especially important because it's in the middle of your primary Prep Zone (the space b/w the sink and cooktop). Prep Zone...Your primary Prep Zone is between the sink and cooktop because it's the only workspace that has both direct water access (KEY for a successful Prep Zone) and is near the cooktop. The island won't work b/c there's no water and because it faces the wrong direction. To work as a truly functional Prep Zone, the island would, at the very least, need a prep sink, but it would be even better turned to face the cooktop. Islands that are to serve as a Prep Zone should have water and the long side should face the cooktop/range. You could accomplish that if you were willing to switch the sink and cooktop in your layout: Flank the cooktop with windows (down to the counter would be nice) Increase the depth of the left perimeter by 3" or so and put the Cleanup Zone over there (sink and DW) Add a prep sink to the island This has the added advantage of putting the cooktop and hood on an exterior wall, making it much easier to vent to the outside...See MoreDoug Carlson
