The DP rating of a window or door is based on laboratory pressure testing in pounds per square foot or psf. Air, water, structural is a three part test that determines much about a window's overall performance. Air infiltration is the first phase, water penetration is next, and structural is the third part of the test. Windows are tested for air infiltration simulating a 25mph wind or a 1.56PSF pressure load - air infiltration is treated separately from both water infiltration and structural and it is independent of the design pressure of the unit. Said again - the air infiltration rate in a window is not based on the design pressure rating of the unit. Both water penetration and structural testing, on the other hand, are based on the window DP rating. Water infiltration is tested at 15% of the design pressure and structural is tested at 150% of DP rating. What this means is that a window with a DP30 is tested for water infiltration at 4.5psf (15% of 30psf) while a window with a DP40 is tested at 6psf (15% of 40). A window with a DP30 rating should be able to keep out rain when its driven by 42mph winds and a window with a DP40 should be able to keep out rain when driven by 49mph winds...so while water infiltration is DP related - and air infiltration is not - the nature of air and water infiltration is different.

loves2cookfor6's pull-out is beautiful! I guess it really depends on the space you have available. Full pull-outs only seem useful if they are quite narrow. The beauty of individual pull-outs is that you have access to the items from both sides, FRONT and TOP. I like pulling an item off the shelf without having a shelf above blocking access and light. In my mind, the full pull-out doesn't function much differently from fixed shelves except for giving access to 2 sides. I used to love going into Ikea showrooms and opening the full pull-outs. They were fun and seemed so clever! But when it came time to choose a 15" wide Ikea pantry for our laundry room, I abandoned the full pull-out (which I really thought I wanted) for the practicality of the individual pull-outs. I couldn't think of a single functional reason for getting the full pull-out. In our house, having drawers on the bottom of our kitchen pantry works well since only the bottom drawer is blocked if something is left on the floor in front of the pantry. I keep my most used items in the front of our pantry shelves. I just have to open the cabinet doot to grab one of these items instead of pulling out anything.

Well I obviously had a DUH moment - jwvideo thanks for pointing out this one is a radiant - I completely missed that. My last range was a KitchenAid slide in with the lip you refer to and it eventually collected gunk at that lip line. I assume a lip-less model will collect gunk in the crack between it and the counter eventually - to-ma-toes to-mah-toes. bruce you are so right about the Elux website. If they can't keep discontinued model off there then what is the consumer to do? The nearest showroom to me that has any Elux models on the floor is 45 minutes away, I've been there 2x to look at everything and will obviously have to do more research. We can recess our refrig so don't need the counter depth and thought we'd go all Elux, too. BUT..... that Frigidaire smudge proof stainless really is amazing. I spoke at length with the maintenance person at the appliance showroom - he was walking the floor removing fingerprints which he says is a full time job there. He highly recommended the Frigidaire finish - knows nothing about features of course so we checked out the Frigidaire refrig and dishwashers while there. The Elux refrig is certainly prettier on the inside but I didn't see a big functional difference and dishwashers were very comparable in my mind so we may have a split kitchen which is fine with our layout. I promised myself I would NOT over analyze building this house - it's not easy.

1. lip height is related to wind rating. Your structural engineer uses this rating for calcs on the house and the windows should meet this or they could invalidate the water intrusion portion of ant warranty. 2. same without the 2" patio drop or other measures. Check plans & code. That being said I did one for a close buddy 12 years back that was flush tracked across a stone floor using a 16' deep overhang and I buried a water channel against the foundation premiter. At that time these were not wind/rain rated at all but it worked. I'm very careful after hearing of a series of issues on the western slopes of the Bay Area.
