30" Gas Range Decision - Blue Star/Five Star/Etc
Comments (15)Also, in regard to the hot oven door on a BS, it's pretty relative. I caught my 4 yo sitting on the floor w/his back against the oven 'warming up' while it was on ~400 deg. It's hot but no hotter than the bottom panel of my Wolf 30" wall oven while it's running, in fact, that oven has surprised me in regard to the 'hot' panels as I've never heard 1 complaint about a Wolf oven door (or panel) getting hot. To me neither are 'too' hot....See MoreRecommendation for Easy to Clean 36 inch All-Gas Range?
Comments (39)Oh geeze, here is my anal retentiveness rearing its ugly head again but here we go again. Hang on... Probably due to the terrible review that Consumer Reports gave Bertazzoni years ago on an older model people are shying away from the new model. Does the new model make up for the sins of the last model? So how about this comparison, The Bertazzoni MAST366GASXT vs. the Fisher & Paykel OR36SCG4X1? Off the top, I can get an extra burner with the Bertazzoni. The Fisher & Paykel offers only 5 burners. The Bertazzoni has better btu numbers, going from 750 btu's to 19,000 btu's. Fisher & Paykel goes from 1,000 btu's to 18,000 btu's. One of Bertazzoni's burners goes down to 750 btu's but the rest of their burners have higher btu's. What if you want to simmer more than one sauce at a time? Fisher & Paykel's burners only go down to 1000 btu's but all of their burners go this low. I am not worried about the btu's at the high end but the low end I am worried about. Are Fisher & Paykel's 1000 btu's low enough for a gentle simmer? The Betazzoni doesn't have a storage drawer. The Fisher & Paykel does. The Betazzoni seems to have a thin rubber door seal which can wear out faster than Fisher & Paykel's more robust woven door seal. Also, on the Bertazzoni, I can easily see sauce spilling into those rear air vents at the back of the oven. Is there a way to clean these vents if this happens? The Fisher & Paykel doesn't have this problem. The Bertazzoni has a 11,000 btu infrared gas broiler. Is it similar to the ceramic infrared broiler in the BlueStar Pro range? Though infrared broilers are preferred, is Bertazzoni's 11,000 btu broiler better than Fisher & Paykel's conventional 13,000 btu gas broiler? I finally found a stat that is the same on both ranges. The baking/roasting power on both ranges have a maximum 17,000 btu's. The difference is that Bertazzoni's oven is always on and kept at a constant temperature. I've never cooked with a range like this before and I wonder how much of an advantage it really is over conventional oven that turn on and off to regulate the temperature. Finally, at least of this writing, Fisher & Paykel is offering an extended 5 year warranty on all of their products, unheard of in the industry. Bertazzoni's warranty is the conventional two years so you will have to purchase an additional warranty for peace of mind. There are other questions I have too but this is a start. The problem with appliance dealers, blogs, and reviews is that no one really seems to be a consumer advocate. Has anyone addressed the issues I brought up here? I think potential customers would like to have answers to these questions....See MoreBlueStar vs FiveStar Open Burner; Reliability, Service, Clean-up
Comments (18)@Denise Meyer, I have the 30" gas F&P range. Things I love about it: Powerful, responsive burners. Stainless steel top (I much prefer it to the black enamel) Telescopic oven racks (come standard with the range) Soft close oven door Things I don't love about it: No low simmer burners (1,000 BTU is the lowest) The oven isn't real large but it suits my needs. I don't bake much or cook elaborate dinners where I need a large oven....See MoreAmazon sellers buying 5 star reviews!
Comments (16)"They will say something like, "I dont' know. It is still in the box",or, "I dont know, It was a gift to someone." Amazon tried to lessen that problem by including a "I don't know the answer" option in the email. Some people still answer to say they don't know though. It's almost like they don't understand how community questions work. They seem to think the person asking somehow specifically selected and is asking them personally so it would be impolite not to answer. :-) My bigger complaint is how they by default sort reviews by "Most helpful". I prefer to sort by "Most recent". (although I might try both ways) I think people are more apt to review if they have a bad experience than a good experience. Then when folks are reading reviews, looking for problems, a reason not to buy, they tend to upvote negative reviews, even when the reviewers negative review has nothing to do with the quality of the product. I'll read negative reviews, sometimes they're enough to persuade me not to buy, oftentimes not. For instance, the little air compressor referred to in the above image has a 4.8 out of 5 star rating with 7,133 ratings. Yet the most helpful (Top review) that peculates (due to folks clicking the Helpful button) to the top is a very negative review due solely to unreasonable expectations. (Someone thinking they can inflate giant RV tires with a little six gallon compressor without it being plugged in) Amazon seems to have also removed the ability to comment on a review. I don't know if that was a good move or not. Sometimes folks will dis a review/er when the reviewer is honestly relating their experience with the purchase. (item wasn't sufficiently protected to survive shipping, etc.) I appreciate those type reviews and think they should not be discouraged. Other times though, as with the above review, I think it would be nice to be able to clear up a misunderstanding. :-) Possibly/hopefully the reason Amazon disabled commenting on reviews was because I kept seeing offers (to the sellers) to "down?" negative reviews. Possibly by upvoting or writing positive reviews? They were definitely offers to (for a price) cheat the review system to help the seller while making the reviews less helpful to the buyer. Since it was dishonest, I'd click "Report abuse". I don't know if Amazon ever took time to remove them. Maybe they were becoming so numerous they found it easier to just disable commenting? I'll still read a review or two but mostly I'll just go by rating if there's a sufficient number to be meaningful. Another problem is folks rating right after they take it out of the box. Or right after trying it a time or two. Which of course says nothing about longevity/durability. I agree, Youtube can sometimes be more helpful....See Morepc6103
