Are you considering an electric PC? I adore my Instant Pot.

Youtube has a ton of videos of people cooking with electric pressure cookers. I've read some reviews and ratings and InstantPot usually rates quite high. But one common complaint about them is damaging cabinets since people set them on the counter under the cabinets and when they vent the steam it shoots it right onto the cabinet. That's not the appliance's fault, but a common misuse.

I thought about one and watching the videos got real curious but then after I watched more, it really didn't seem like it would save me that much time all things considered, plus the more detailed cleaning required on it to make sure the seals and valves are cleaned right. Ribs in 20 minutes sounded appealing, rather than a couple hours Nescolating it, but that's not the whole story. There's 20 min or more for it to come up to pressure, THEN the 20 min cooking and then there's the release time which can be quite a while, especially if you use the "natural" vent rather than quick release (which still isn't that "quick" in my definition) so when all is totaled, it didn't sound like it would save that much time and I had a feeling I would be soon putting it on the shelf with other unused appliances. People who have them can give you more detail from real life experience but I decided against one for now at least.

I have ordered an Instant Pot. Any tips for a good site to find recipes?

I'm looking forward to trying it out. It seems very simple, and that's what I'm looking for.

Just Google "Instant Pot Blogs" and you will see TONS of recipes. People are really devoted to their IP's. Anything I've wanted to try in the IP, I've been able to find online.

A non-electric PC can be dishwasher safe, and smaller. Nothing to go wrong. Power out? keep cooking.

An aluminum one is much lighter, and heats up much faster.

Get one with long handles. Much easier to open.

Get one with silicone gasket. Rubber ones don't last long and expensive to replace.

There's nothing better than having cooking setting choices, programmability, and mostly, set it and forget it convenience!

I've used the traditional Presto press. cooker for 30 years. Decided a month ago to "upgrade" to the new Instant Pots as I now have an induction cooktop and my old Presto ALUMINUM one wouldn't work on it. I got the highest rated brand of the I.P. and am glad it had a defect so I could return it. I did NOT like it - took about double the amt. of time my regular pot did, was fiddly and just too slow. The advantages are, however, perhaps for working people or young ones that never used a traditional one. They like the ability to start it in the morning and then come home with the food already cooked and being kept warm - a trad. pressure cooker can not do that. IMO, if you are not needing to "set it and forget it" then go with the traditional versions (Presto is fabulous and also has a stainless steel version for use on induction, which I am now using). If you ARE working and out every day, there might be advantages for YOU. Go to their facebook page - lots of recipes and notes from admirers. It's just that I like the speediness of the traditional versions and I don't need to set in the morning and eat the food 10 hours later. I like it fresher and not having to wait. Also, many complaints on the IP about having a not-so-good slow cooker built in, also. And my IP inner pot domed up after I browned the meat first - the whole thing just not for me.

I don't use my IP as a slow cooker and wouldn't put food in to cook hours later. Glad your pot works for you.

I have a Breville version of the slow cooker/pressure cooker--I've only used it as a slow cooker, but it's fab for that!

Even pressure cook only electric pressure cookers don't go to as high a pressure as stove top, and therefore don't cook as fast.

How big is yours? Amazon shows ones as small as 1.5 litres. More at 2 litres/quarts. Cooking in a smaller pot than that is hard. There were also 3.3 and 4. Anything more, and I'd call it big. :)

I had purchased the 6 Qt. size using the I.P. brand - now have the 6 Qt. Presto traditional again, but in S/S.
