Which of these three bathroom layouts should I choose?
Comments (8)Thanks everyone for your responses! techiestar: Great idea on the towel rack, and thanks so much for the photo! Much appreciated catherini: Yes, to tub or not to tub is quite a dilemma. I think I'm going to stick with the tub. Who knows? Maybe someday I'll need to soak with Epsom salts. coolbeans: I agree, I won't do #2. debbiejoy: Totally agree about having natural light in the bathroom. I'm going to switch option #3 around so that the bath is on the other wall. That way, I can have as big a window as I want. (Yes, we are putting a new window in, so we can have whatever size we like.) sandiandjerry: Yikes! I didn't notice that!!! The last thing I need is the bathroom door opening to reveal the (ta da!) toilet. mongoct: Bingo! That is precisely what I'm going to do. - - - - Again, thanks so much. Problem solved! Yaaaaaaaaay for this forum!!! (I don't know how I ever lived without it!)...See MoreWhich system should we choose?
Comments (5)Thank you very much for the quick reply! The A/C that was installed when we bought the house has never done a good job of heating or cooling. It is a 5-ton Lennox system. We have 2800 square feet of living space all on one level. Does a 5-ton seem too large a unit for the size of the house? Thank you very much for the information that the $1500 tax credit would not apply. That will go a long way toward helping us decide, because we were under the impression that we could effectively pay less for the higher SEER rated system if we got the and tax credit and rebate. With two kids in college a $7000 financial hit is not going to be easy to handle, and knowing that we won't get the tax credit will make it easier to live with the decision to go with the lesser expensive unit. I really appreciate the advice you've given, and any more you have to offer will definitely help!...See More1890 Eastlake/Stick Victorian Remodel. What Ceiling Should we Choose?
Comments (6)Given everything's exposed now, there should be a better way to stiffen the ceiling joists. Do ceilings sag now? Is the attic useable? A beam could be placed in the attic, with hangers down to joists. Each joist could have another joist sistered to it (the new joist could be a few inches deeper). The engineer could even use light gauge metal framing (given current price of lumber, not a bad idea). Many times the joists and rafters in these older houses are undersized by modern standards and even deflect a little, but they've stood for over 100 years and are constructed with lumber superior to what can be currently obtained. Good luck on your project!...See MoreWhich new hardwood floor should I choose?
Comments (10)The gray stain on the doors/trim is pink (when shown against the new options). The darker floors throw more GRAY into the air = the doors look grayer than they actually are. As soon as you take away the dark gray, you will notice how pink your doors actually are. I'm sorry but the best way to get this to work is to REVERSE the colour scheme. That means dark(er) doors with LIGHTER floors....See Morerrah
