Hood Crown Molding- Does it HAVE to match the cabinets?
Comments (4)IMO, the cabinetry crown should be the same shade of white as the cabinets. On another thought, does the wall crown molding profile and size match the cabinetry molding profile and size? If not, I can see two options: 1. Stop the wall moulding short of the cabinet and allow for a few inches of wall space before the cabinetry crown hits in the wall (which means the two shades of white won't touch) or 2. Have a bear of a time trying to scribe the cabinetry molding to fit over the wall crown molding. If by chance they are the same profile and size I'd still match the molding to the cabinetry. I ask about the profiles because it is the issue that caused my hood to drop low enough for the cabinetry crown to hit the wall below my wall crown....See MoreCrown Moulding for Cabinets: Price Went Up. Comments (23)When you signed off on the cabinet order, was the order placed right away or did it wait until the molding price came in? I bet you are being penalized for placing a separate small order and they may have a minimum shipping charge that you would not have had to pay if the molding had been ordered at the same time. Do not mention it until you get an answer, but if yes, it is more for that reason, you should let them know you expect they will take care of this without penalty to you and speak with a manager if necessary. They should not have placed your order until it was complete if it would cost you more to do wo without discussing it with you. If they didn't, you should not have to abosrb the cost. If you are still within the time when you can cancel the entire order with minimal/no loss, you might nicely inquire if that is possible while you work this out, and then place the order again with everything included. Before you say anyththing else you might want inquire if this is the case. The fact that the labor for the molding was included in the original contract clearly indicates that they were aware that you wanted it. And, yes, I think molding makes a huge difference in the finished look of the kitchen even if it is a very simple molding. The one exception might be a galley type kitchen or a contemporary style. JMHO. Unless DH is exceptional, most men don't place anywhere near as much importance on aesthetics as you would, but chances are when you go to sell, the molding will pay for itself. Comments (10)Michele, for the closet, I had an old Frazee paint chip color wheel and selected the color Mythic Fire,7796N. If you are going to try this project, you should probably get a color wheel and find the best undertone match for the wood you want to match, or take a sample of the wood to the paint store to look at chips if you don't have a wheel. What matched for my stained cherry wood may not be the best match for your wood or stain color. Good luck!...See Morecabinet crown molding or house crown molding?
Comments (11)ffjunk, of course it's a personal choice, but thought I should add, we have a situation similar to yours, with a pass-through window between painted cabinets, as well as a pocket door between a cabinet and a cabinet pantry. Our cabinet crown molding, and our whole house crown molding are the same heights, but different cuts, so the choice was easier for us - keep the same crown molding throughout the kitchen, though it is open concept. We are using stop blocks at the pocket door crown as the pantry is a stained along with the crown molding above it, and the cabinet adjacent is painted, along with the crown above that. The trim around the door will be painted the same as the cabinet/cabinet crown molding. Our ceilings are 9'. We are also using a stop block where the whole house crown meets the kitchen cabinetry crown - it would be very difficult to both cope and scribe the crowns to match and we prefer the stop blocks. I don't have photos as we are still in the midst of remodeling and our cabinet maker has yet to bring and install the stop blocks....See Moresuzanne_sl
