Should Cabinet Crown molding match rest of house?
Comments (10)If you don't match the profiles of the moldings, you will be left with a plinth block separating the two different profiles. Some people find that less than desirable. Some people are OK with it. Here are two molding transitions that you do NOT want. The "woops, what now". The "we don't know what a plinth block is". I personally find that the best solution is to have the same top profile for the crown, and just change colors between walls and cabinets. Even if you have stacked molding on the cabinets, it works, because the profiles are the same. That's what we did here. We used a stacked crown for the cabinets, but the same top profile for cabinets and crown, just changing color where appropriate....See Morecabinet crown molding or house crown molding?
Comments (11)ffjunk, of course it's a personal choice, but thought I should add, we have a situation similar to yours, with a pass-through window between painted cabinets, as well as a pocket door between a cabinet and a cabinet pantry. Our cabinet crown molding, and our whole house crown molding are the same heights, but different cuts, so the choice was easier for us - keep the same crown molding throughout the kitchen, though it is open concept. We are using stop blocks at the pocket door crown as the pantry is a stained along with the crown molding above it, and the cabinet adjacent is painted, along with the crown above that. The trim around the door will be painted the same as the cabinet/cabinet crown molding. Our ceilings are 9'. We are also using a stop block where the whole house crown meets the kitchen cabinetry crown - it would be very difficult to both cope and scribe the crowns to match and we prefer the stop blocks. I don't have photos as we are still in the midst of remodeling and our cabinet maker has yet to bring and install the stop blocks....See MoreShould I add crown molding to my kitchen cabinets?
Comments (6)I think it depends on the overall look you'd like. For a cleaner or minimalist look, and for those flat panels, no molding or a flat, or possibly cove, molding may be suitable. I didn't like mine without the molding, but it's an old house and a traditional kitchen. Plus I didn't want to deal with any dust (and pet hair!) accruing up there. reno in progress pics...See MoreBacksplash till cabinet crown molding or all the way up to ceiling
Comments (9)@fori yes it is the same size, shape and design (same matching tile, just bullnose). Ok I get it, thanks a lot, yes it does have a rounded long side. I will add it as the final tile on top. I was thinking for the sides perspective, so was getting confused. Anyway this helps a lot :)...See Moresautesmom Sacramento
