AWESOME *A* daylilies for 2017, YEAH!
It's finally time for the alphabet to start, hurray! I'm thinking by the time we are done we will have some orders made and be waiting for planting time to begin. Last year the alphabet was responsible for a few new plants that were added to my gardens. I don't know what I'll do if if I'm tempted to add more..... no more room.... Ha Ha Ha! I think we have all said that at some point. Well, let's see what you've got!!!
Three A's for me, all have been in my yard for more years than I want to count. The first is Anzac,it blooms in the shade and doesn't skip a beat.

7 years agoThere are so many "a's." Perhaps some of the letters should be subdivided.
Apache War Dance. Not as well budded this year and affected by drought.
Ada Mae Musick. Never as tall as registered. But among the hardiest of the Lambertsons. (Most have disappeared.)
Apricot Jade--my favorite apricot, but low bud count this past year.
Ashwood Magic Crystal --Not many flowers this year, but it is far from a clump.
Adamas --pic from a previous year. Quite short, but striking. Didn't see it this past year.
Ashwood Summer Sunshine. To me, a lovely flower. Vigorous. But this year not abundant. More people should grow this one.
Ashwood Smoky Joe --very nice color, but not for afternoon sun.
Ashwood Dark Side --very dark in an old-fashioned form.
Ashwood Rings of Saturn --my pics of this tend to accentuate the coloration, though this one is close. Definitely not an early opener. But it bloomed well this past year.
Absolute Treasure --I still keep this one.

7 years agoI'll do a few more. James, April La Quinta was quite nice here this past year, but I wonder if it will ever perform at par here. Certainly not at registered height. So many daylily picture sites feature beautiful blooms of a southern evergreen; but one wonders, how many blooms were there, what was the scape height, and how consistent is the plant?
Alabama Jubilee was okay here this past year. It is known for dependability and intensity. This isn't the best picture, but this wasn't (by far) a great year.
Adorable Tiger has left the premises. What a frustration trying to grow this one in the North!
Atlas Shrugged is a brawny plant. Disappointing this past year.
Arctic Lace on a stunted scape this past year.
All of My Love to You was very good this past year. Was larger in size this year than last (slightly over 5 ").
After some sun:
All American Chief. Like many cultivars, it was not a great year for the chief. More splotching, fewer buds.
Always Tomorrow. I still grow this. The picture may flatter reality in terms of color intensity.
Alice Lambertson. I like this older Lambertson, which grows well here, though it is not a rapid multiplier.

I have had a phal and a dend/phal NOIDs for around 18 months and have been unable to get them to rebloom. I also have: Onc Dgmra. Winter Wonderland 'White Fairy' New ones on Friday: Ascda. Pralor 'Barbara Elmore' HCC/AOS that has red/orange bloom Epiden. 'Pixie Princess' H&R Epi. Veitchii Bulbophyllum pulchellum 'El' So, you see, I am kind of all over the place. The epi is in spike and I am excited!!! Jean, bird-bird looks great contrasting with your red walls! Beautiful bird! Dawn, you have a cutie baby bird too! I want a bird!!!! Trops, yes, I do have the plant that shoots seeds, Dorstenia. I do have Stuttgart, but I just got it last year, many thanks to both Marea and Susan for it! If it multiplies well, I would be happy to share. Thanks for the congrats on my weight loss. Add another pound to that! Or, should I say subtract another pound from me, LOL! I am eating normally now, just not sugar. I even bought a big bag of M&M's for my pal and it didn't call out my name. I have been eating Blue Bunny ice cream, the carb-free or sugar free varieties and I can't tell. I ate peanut brittle ice cream last night, YUM! OK, better get busy. Comments (100)Shirley, I'm a Medical Technologist. Since most people have no idea of what that is, here is a short explaination. 4 years college, 1 year intership. I work in a hospital laboratory. We are the people who set up the blood for transfusions, microbiology (find out what bacteria you have), all the blood tests when you have your blood taken (hemoglobin, Blood sugars), urine tests, stool tests, sperm counts, Cerebral Spinal Fluid, any fluids from your body get tested by us. We also help draw blood, but please don't get us confused with the Phlebotomy team, they only draw blood for a living. I enjoy my job and the people probably because I work part-time. When the kids are done with school, then I will be full-time. Dawn, I grew Kong Mosiac Coleus from seed this year. It didn't do so well for me, probably since I had it in partial sun. Can't wait to hear more about the Lu'au. Well, today is our 22 wedding aniversary and hubby will be working very late. But we will celebrate this weekend. Also, I'm covered with poison Ivy. For the life of me I couldn't figure out how I got it. But then I put 2 and 2 together. Hubby and son were at the cottage for several days, so I let Ahi the cat sleep with me. HE is an outdoor/indoor cat. I bet he had it on his fur and the rest is history, or the rest is on me. The worst patch is on my neck where he loves to rub. I'm the biggest baby when it comes to Poison Ivy. I scratch and scratch. I'm trying really hard not to scratch my neck and face. (silent scream) Dawn, since you are into coleus, I thought you might get a kick out of a no-name coleus that did great for me. Pic is on the front porch. Grew this one from seed also. (Grow all of mine from seed). And since we need a Daylily picture, here is Knights in White Satin with tall red salvia and Rudbeckia gloriosa. This is KIWS last bloom. :o( And since I just have to post a picture of this Rudbeckia, I'm not sure what it is called. Took me all summer to fall in love with it. Now I will be sad to see it go. Lots more stuff in there not pictured. Brugmansia 'Creamsickle' three blooms on a heat stressed plant and Coleus 'Lava Rose'- my favorite coleus this year. My business is slow as expected when starting out. I have a partial website (go figure?), my license, business cards. Made a bag with my logo on it that I carry around. Comments (80)I have never heard of Oregano oil. How much and how often? Does it have to be tomato juice or can I use something else? I will have to check it out. Im not too sure on the stinging nettle. I wanted to try tumeric formy chronic pain but not sure how to use it. And now Im thinking of black cohosh for other things. These allergies/sinusitus/menopause symptoms are killing me plus my chronic pain. . I just want to feel normal again. If I didnt color Id prob be going out of my mind. Thank you Amy! Oh did I mention my daughter finally graduated cosmetology school in nov. so no more 14 hr days with the grandbaby. And Im finally getting days off. And she finally gave me a decent haircut after about 4 times of messing my hair up. She did what she was told to do and correctly followed directions. Angel Rodgers --Looked good this year.
Ambulance Chaser --Looked good, but have yet to see it at registered height.
Awesome Candy --A Stamile that has been reliable, but short.
Astral Voyager --don't remember how it performed this past year.
African Grape --a vigorous Munson
Answering Angels --a nice color and multiplies, but so short and really would like it warmer.
Admiral's Braid --not a great performer, but still throws some nice blooms every year.

7 years agoWow, lots a great A's everyone! I'd say some of my favs are Altered State, Age of Aquarious, America the Beautiful and Astral Voyager. Ambrosia Rows is nice as well. I don't have many A's but here they are:

7 years agoALL THINGS TO ALL MEN - Pod and pollen fertile. Huge blooms and never hangs up.
ADORABLE TIGER - Does well for me in my Zone 5 garden. Increase is moderate. I have been digging into it for the past two years without an impact on performance.
ALCHEMIST- sold all I had 2 years ago, but kept a proliferation that was a cluster of five fans (instant clump). This one proliferates like crazy. Late season bloomer. This a later in the afternoon image so the purple has faded.
ART ATTACK - love the color of this one. Did not do well in one spot of the garden, so I potted it up and viola - it bloomed. It will have a new location in the Spring.
ARROGANT B*ST*RD - Great plant - it is the last thing blooming in my garden in October. It just keeps pumping out the buds.

7 years agoArctic Lace is one of the best plants in the garden. Starts early and, if the weather cooperates, sends up instant rebloom scapes that keep the blooms coming pretty well to frost.

7 years agoLilyKate , I can definitely relate to what you said about organization. I have hundreds of photos but if I cant immediately recognize them I dont get them labelled . I have not been able to figure out a way to do it while I am taking pictures instead of trying to do it after . There has got to be a way .......anyone?

7 years agoSorry Folks , I have to do a recall on one of my pics. I was just getting ready to add the pic to my personal daylily data base and to that end was researching the plant info only to discover the plant I have been sold as Adam Pitkin Hurd is NOT APH . SIGH! I have no clue what this plant's name is now so if some of you recognize it as something other than what I was told it was I would appreciate any and all help to id .
So now I have to add that plant to my "Who the heck am I " list of daylilies . I HATE WHEN THIS HAPPENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Signet, I agree with you that I hate when I have one mislabeled or can't find my label and when I do, the name is worn off!! That has happened with many of my older lilies that I have moved several times. And, as time goes by, I have become very fond of my older lilies and now want to know what they are!! I am glad you bumped the A thread back up because I found one of mine that I love. Perhaps everyone is past the A lilies but I will post anyway! Kate
