My GC screwed up the pipes. What would you do?
Comments (4)Hollysprings you can see that all the way from Mississippi? Great vision. But seriously get on him and have him do it, your money his mistake. You have most likely paid for them to do it and they missed it. For someone not well versed in plumbing and construction it can sound like a serious undertaking, it really shouldn't be. If you decide not to have him do it you are owed a credit. I would have it done at no extra cost to you, he might try and tell you he needs money to fix his mistake, he won't phrase it like that. It's the cost of doing business for him. Stick to your guns and get that disposal if that's what you want....See MoreIsland - What can I do to spruce it up?
Comments (32)Abundantblessings - That sounds like a neat idea with the table runner. The valance is the same material. I was aiming for one like My3dogs here. I used olive green cording to hold up the sides. I'm considering using the gold/red DR chair fabric for the tie ups when I make the new one. It was the first thing I ever made! Didn't turn out too bad but it's skimpy looking. It didn't bother me at first (I think because I was so darn proud! ha) but it needs redone. Ajsmamma - Really? The picture of the corner post isn't showing up? I attached the link to what I was talking about. We were one the same website! I can't picture the island having paint on the one side and stain on the other. I think the whole thing needs to be matching one or the other. Can anyone find a pic of half and half?! My Merillat cabients are I believe Seneca Ridge. Phoggie - I could probably convince him with that beadboard idea but what about the other side of the island. I would have to paint it white. . . paint on cabinets kind of scares me. :) Oakley- I'd probably do the painting if we did end up going that route. My Dad is so busy with stuff right now I wouldn't ask him. There's already a few things I need him to finish up over here (that he started) and it's been like pulling teeth. Can anyone photoshop beadboad?? Ctlane - I think at some point I'll head out to Lowes and grab a piece of white and oak to get a feel if I would like it. Regarding the painting or staining the island..I haven't even mentioned that to DH. If it was something I felt 100% I was comfortable with and knew I would like..I could probably convince him. I'm just scared to change the color of it because I'm so fickle. It takes awhile before I get things "right" with house stuff. Comments (15)I have the same range and had installation issues too, although not with Ikea cabinets or installers. I had custom cabinets made and because every inch was very important to me, despite what the spec sheet said, we (the cabinet maker and I) decided that we could get away with 1/2 inch on each side instead of the full inch. Well, I could only get either the lazy susan cabinet door on one side of the range OR the spice pullout on the other to open (by shifting the range a tiny bit from one side to the other). My cabs are frameless, so full overlay. IIRC, we ended up changing the 1/2 inch filler to one inch on one side, which threw the symmetry off by 1/2 inch. I did not make the installer put in 1/2 inch filler on the upper cabs for two reasons: 1. I thought it would look weird and 2. I was at least partially responsible for the error. So now, my upper cabinets are shifted 1/2 inch off from the base cabs, but it's really hard to tell. My granite also needed fixing, but I had a strip along the back with two short seams. My granite guy graciously fixed it for free by making a slightly longer strip. The seams only have about 1.5 inches showing - they are barely visible and I think the strip of granite in the back is standard for slide-in ranges. Good luck. I think this can be resolved such that you would not even know that there was ever a problem....See MoreHelp me decorate my house (excuse mess)
Comments (24)Peridot-- I'm really sorry to hear how ill your DH has been and all your family has been through. It's a bit of an investment, but I have these sea grass baskets everywhere for storage: I use the "high" size and also sometimes cram in Rubbermaid bento box storage containers so that inside I can have dividers to contain my kid's tchotchkes. I have 4 kiddos too almost the exact age range as yours, so I completely understand the "stuff"! I think I have possibly tried every single toy storage solution out there, and this one has been the most organized, indestructible (!!!!) and pretty. And straightforward enough for 2 and 4 year olds to use but not fall into or bonk themselves, etc. I use the natural Seagrass colored ones and I think it is a warm but natural accent color that may look nice with your neutral color scheme and warm walls. The super large sizes are wonderful to dump blankets and throws! Strength and peace to you. You're in my thoughts....See Moreperidot821
