How old does an aloe vera have to be to give decent skin healing?

Hi everyone.

I've read around that it should be 4+ years old but I'm not quite sure. I have a young plant and the gel in the leaf is plenty sticky but does it take years for the 'good stuff' to be produced in the leaf?

I do know that aloe arborescens does need to have many years of age for its internal-use healing in the human body but I'm not sure about its relative vera when it comes to skin (treating and preventing sunburn, etc).

Gardenweb to the rescue?

Thanks,

Glen
