What did you do this weekend? Aug. 6-7
Comments (11)Theresa, hope you get back to sewing soon. The rest of you were busy and got at least some sewing done. I am with Theresa...thought about sewing/quilting but got nothing done in that area. Saturday was cleanup day so not much else was done. DH and I did get to Tims for coffee/tea and a Fruit Explosion muffin. During the late evening DH went salmon fishing and caught 2 Atlantic salmon. Fresh salmon for supper this evening....looking forward to that! He was so pleased with his catch but we totally forgot to take pics. Sunday was a 50th birthday get together for my brain-injured brother....at the hospital. You could tell he was enjoying all the fuss although he did say he was home and later told me he was at a friend's house. He lives in the moment....a blessing for him, in a way, but difficult for the family to witness. He has very little short term memory. We had 18 family/friends show up with gifts and best wishes. Lots of pics taken and lots of chatter. This week I have promised myself I will get back to serious quilting and to watching my diet. I've been feeding my emotions and that is not a good thing...... lots of 'bad' food. ~Geraldine...See MoreWhat are you doing this weekend?
Comments (23)I'm finishing the crown molding in my dining room to keep me busy, since I can't stop obsessing about my kitchen remodel that will start in less than 2 months! I custom built the box beams and installed new lighting in a previously dark dining room. Redhead- I try to end nearly every day with lighting of candles and opening the wine- it's the only way I seem to get through the stress of the planning phase! I'll probably have to stock up on the heavy stuff once the kitchen remodel actually starts! dretutz- cyber hugs to you regarding your mother. My 87 year old mother just got released from the hospital- it definitely changes perspectives to realize she may not be with us much longer....See MoreWhat are you doing this weekend?

Haven't done much, finally pulled the "Love In a Mist" vine out of its pot on the porch, removed and saved the seeds from the dried seed pods; had some coffee and yellow watermelon for lunch; then got the grabber out and proceeded to pick up trash along the road. Someone either threw out a styrofoam cooler or it fell from a vehicle and smashed in the ditch. Half of the many pieces were in the ditch the other up on top in the farmer's field. I decided I'd pick up what I could reach. What a mess. I was halfway down the road when a neighbor stopped and told me to "Hop in!" she was headed to their sheep shed up the road and wanted to show me the meadow and how pretty it was with all the wild blooming weeds. So I lay down my trash bag and grabber inside my garden gate and went for a ride. They own 28 acres over there and I never knew it....See MoreWhat Are You Doing This Weekend?
Comments (18)I have a filled weekend. 1. Saturday: Went to a quarry with a rock hound club to hunt for fossils. This quarry is about 60 miles fro my house. On the way home, stopped in at Menard's to pick up supplies for combating a woodpecker who wants to destroy my house. 2. Sunday morning: Attend the annual "Early Day Equipment Show" in the park in my town. There will be an antique car show in the morning. This won't have specialty autos from the '60s and '70s. These will be truly old ones, earlier than 1940. Maybe the Reo and Mack trucks will be there. The final drive on the Mack was a roller chain. Could be the Depression Tractor will show up. This was a kit sold bt Sears & Roebuck in the 1930s. It was a kit to assemble a crude tractor. You could buy it with or without a transmission. Typically, the owner mounted a Model T or A engine that he already had to complete the tractor. The equipment show will have plenty of steam engines and Oil Pull tractors. A sawmill will be runnning powered by a 65 HP Case steam engine or a Keck Gonnerman. The unique feature about this show is that if an engine is capable of running, it will be operating. One year, an engine, propeller, and other parts for a Curtis Wright 1911 Pusher Airplane was for sale. 3. Patch 2 holes made by a woodpecker in second story window frames and clad over with pre-painted aluminum to strop the destructive critter. I have similar windows on both the front and back of my house, but the woodpecker is attacking only the front ones. The difference is that the front windows are flanked by rough sawn redwood batten boards. The wood pecker gets an easy grip on the rough redwood. I do not think it is looking for insects. From the evidence, its pecking out a protected place to hole up in this winter....See Morechisue
